Perfect New Yorker Cover Hammers Chris Christie Over Bridge Scandal

When news first started breaking about the now infamous New Jersey bridge closure scandal, I really didn’t pay much attention to it.  I figured it was nothing more than some small blip headline that would soon fade away.

But the more details that keep emerging about this situation the uglier it’s getting for New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.  Which wasn’t helped by the fact that Christie gave an extremely long press conference addressing the issue, where he denied having any knowledge about top aides within his office ordering what’s considered a retaliation against a mayor who refused to endorse Governor Christie during his re-election bid.

The New Yorker and cartoonist Barry Blitt had a great take on it depicting him as a little boy blocking all the traffic on the bridge.  Here, check it out:

It’s a clear jab at the sheer immaturity and juvenile mindset that led to this whole scandal to begin with.  Basically, one man’s ego being hurt because someone refused to stroke it, so his “office” retaliated against the mayor by shutting down 2 of 3 lanes on a bridge the mayor’s town relied on for their daily commutes.

See, the more details that continue to be made public about this entire situation, the more it’s becoming clear that there’s absolutely no way Chris Christie knew absolutely nothing about it.  And if so, he’s completely incompetent.

Take the latest emails that show officials fought over media leaks and rushed to control the publicity damage in the days following the lane closings near the George Washington Bridge which resulted in huge traffic jams.

The emails show officials within Christie’s office seemed to care more about publicity over the lane closures rather than the actual impact they might have on the lives of those who relied on the bridge for transportation.

So, let me get this straight.  Top aides within Christie’s office worked with a Christie appointee at the Port Authority (a high school friend of Christie’s at that) to orchestrate retaliation against a mayor who refused to endorse the New Jersey governor — then scrambled following the closures to handle media and bad publicity.  And during this entire ordeal Chris Christie knew absolutely nothing about it?

All these people are texting, emailing, scrambling and anxious over the aftermath following this pathetic stunt, and the whole time Christie was in the dark?

The “why” this happened is pathetic.  The fact that Christie had nothing to do with the planning of the stunt is simply unbelievable to me, even though no evidence as of yet has implicated him.  Then to think that as the aftermath unfolded, and the scandal began to build, Christie knew absolutely nothing about it until very recently?

I’m sorry, I don’t buy that for one second.

Either Christie is flat-out lying or he is absolutely incompetent.

But one thing is for certain, there’s a lot more about this bridge scandal that we don’t even know yet.
