President of Conservative Anti-Gay Group Claims Gays ‘Persecute’ Christians by Using Facebook

Tony-Perkins-frcMaybe it’s just a sick curiosity, but I would love to be able to spend a day in the minds of some of the people I despise most. There’s just a level of ignorance and stupidity on which some people live that I honestly can’t grasp. And often anti-gay advocates fall into this category.

For the life of me I just don’t get why these people care who someone else loves. Homosexuality has been around since the dawn of humanity so it’s not as if it’s a “new” thing. It’s been around, and will always be around for as long as human beings exist. A question I always like asking these types of people is, “How did gay people being in a loving relationship ruin your day today?”

Well for those of you who might not be aware, one of the more well-known anti-gay groups out there is one called Family Research Council headed by Tony Perkins. It’s your typical batshit crazy right-wing conservative “Christian” group that opposes gay rights and pushes for abstinence until marriage in lieu of birth control. And Perkins has become quite well-known for being, well, a complete idiot.

Take for instance when he recently said on his radio show Washington Watch that homosexuals were essentially “the enemy” and they were “persecuting” Christians by doing such horrific things like – posting pictures on Facebook.

“Jesus said that we are to pray for our enemies, for those who persecute us, that would be those who mock and ridicule us, absolutely we should pray for them,” Perkins said to a caller who had said they should pray that gays would turn their lives around.

Then he lumped all homosexuals in with one mentally ill individual who tried to levy some sort of an attack on the Family Research Council’s headquarters.

“We’ve had them come into our building with guns, shooting, to try to kill us,” he said. “We harbor no bitterness in our hearts toward them, which is something they can’t understand. They want to project and that’s why they like to call us haters and so on and so forth, but they’re projecting.”

It’s amazing how people like him fail to understand that opposing equal rights for people and judging them all based on their sexual orientation is showing bitterness toward them. These “Christians” always act as if they’re some innocent victims being “targeted” by people who are gay when they are the ones who are actively attacking the rights of others. The truth is, nobody cares what religion these people follow. But when they start trying to force their views on other people then that’s a huge problem.

“I think more and more Americans are waking up because they’re seeing it,” Perkins continued. “This is being shoved into people’s faces, and if, like you, they say, ‘I don’t want this on my Facebook page, I don’t want this, I don’t want to see this, look, do whatever you want to do but don’t involve me in that’ that’s not good enough, there’s this effort of forced acceptance and affirmation. And we just can’t do that.”

Now homosexuals are “persecuting Christians” like himself by posting things on their Facebook profiles. Apparently it’s just not gay marriage and equal rights that bigots like him oppose, they also want homosexuals to censor themselves on Facebook in order to not “involve” others in their lifestyle.

Meanwhile I’m sure he finds it perfectly acceptable for people like himself to post all the ignorant nonsense in which they believe on their profiles because “it’s their right” to do so.

This is just more of the same outrageous nonsense from these bottom-feeding anti-gay activists. These are people who seem so insecure with themselves, and really their own faith, that they constantly feel the need to try to force their views on others.

Luckily our Constitution prohibits them from doing that and when the Supreme Court rules on same-sex marriage in a few months, I’m predicting Mr. Perkins is going to have a really bad day.

I assume Mr. Perkins avoids posting any pictures of his wife on facebook in order to avoid involving us in his sexuality.

They seem to think they’re being persecuted because they’re loosing the right to persecute others openly and freely. Well, all I can say is that if all those straight couples would stop having all those gay babies … he wouldn’t have a problem I guess.
I would like to know how his congregants are getting “gay pictures” on their walls? Hhmmmmm.

Perhaps he’s “friended” a bunch of homosexuals. It’s how I get so many homosexual oriented memes on my feed (not complaining, just makes Man Crush Mondays and Woman Crush Wednesdays interesting). His Pintrest would be more telling…

“Maybe it’s just a sick curiosity, but I would love to be able to spend a day in the minds of some of the people I despise most.”

I have often wondered what would happen to a conservative if his eyes were opened to the reality of the world for as little as a minute or two. I assume that his head would explode or something.

The closest case I can think of concerns the cadre of torture-loving right-wingers who declared that “waterboarding is not torture” and allowed themselves to be subjected to it. EVERY SINGLE ONE emerged from the experience horrified and saying “I was wrong, it IS torture”. Meanwhile, not a single right-wing mind was changed by this.

Apparently conservatives will only believe things that happen to themselves personally (and sometimes not even that: “Obamacare saved me, but it is still a complete lie and a crime against humanity”). This leads to a remarkably narrow, wildly inaccurate view of the world, one we see espoused by right-wingers online every day.

  • Wow, i forgot why i unsubscribed from this websites emails: they constantly delete unoffensive comments. thats why those who use the word “progressives” always prove to be such losers !!!

“How did gay people being in a loving relationship ruin your day today?” – “I can’t focus on loving my wife because I’m too enthralled about two men having sex,” replied Tony Perkins. “That’s how it ruined my day.”

I try to see the logic of what others say. In this case, I am totally at a loss of how LGBT folk posting on facebook is persecuting him.

For that matter, what would happen if he found out that there are plenty of web sites that are much more hard core than Facebook.

What do you want to bet he’ll be the next one caught in a sex scandal! I’ve always found the people who object to something the loudest are usually doing it as well.

Umm..why are these pictures coming up on his Facebook if he’s not already actively looking for it? He can stop things from being posted on his feed very quickly…

  • Cemetery Girl

Someone send him to FB101. Teach him how not to follow, hide, and if need be unfriend. I’ve used these nifty options to avoid feeds that annoy me, like judgmental super-dee-duper Christian memes or quotes from Glen Beck.

Christians like Perkins think that, as long as you smile that stupid smile, you can push in the blade and twist the knife. “Love the sinner, hate the sin,” is a big lie. These are some of the most hateful people on earth.

If anyone was to follow the link that Allen posted that takes you to the audio of the comment in question and actually listen to it, you’ll see that Allen is misrepresenting what was said. That is normal for this page.

It’s not about faith or what these gay-haters really feel. It’s about the dollar and an ignorant base. Fund-raising tactic – that’s all.

The problem is, they’re really not Christian, they are followers of the all mighty green back. Money’s their God

Maybe all of you missed this, but for all the talk in this article about “acceptance” of others, the first sentence presents some pretty hard evidence as to how much hate this author is trying to incite. Kind of makes him a hypocrite.

…”I would love to be able to spend a day in the minds of some of the people I despise most”

Despise being a synonym for hate, just to make it crystal clear.
