Reaching New Lows: Republicans Attack President Obama for Putting His Foot On a Desk

obama-foot-on-deskRepublicans should be very thankful their supporters don’t like to think for themselves.  This inability to form their own thoughts and ideas makes them very easy to manipulate and control.  It’s how you get millions of poor and middle class Americans to vote for policies which hurt them, yet benefit the rich.

Simply yell out the GOP talking point of, “Tax hikes kill jobs!” — and Republican voters instantly, and often without question, react with hostility and fear against anyone who might hint at the possibility of raising taxes.

In short, these people are often ridiculous.

Remember “Umbrellagate?”  When an image circulated around the internet of Marine holding an umbrella over President Obama’s head as he gave a speech in the rain?

Republicans were outraged.  How dare President Obama be so arrogant as to require a proud Marine to hold an umbrella for him.  Can’t he hold his own umbrella?  What a disgrace!

Except—there were easily found images of Republican presidents having umbrellas held over their heads by members of our military as they gave speeches.  That fact had little impact on lessening the right-wing outrage over that image of President Obama having an umbrella held over his head by a Marine.

But apparently some Republicans have decided to top that stupidity by being outraged that President Obama has a couple of images circulating where he’s seen putting his feet on the Oval Office desk.

The horrors!

And just like last time, this outrage is completely moronic.

Why?  Well, besides the fact that no one should care if a president happens to put their feet on the Oval Office desk — the article I’ve linked above shows images of President George W. Bush and President Gerald Ford with their feet on the Oval Office desk.

And guess what?  Nobody cared.

The only reason I’m even writing about it is the sheer ridiculousness of it.  It’s absolutely pathetic the depths at which Republicans will stoop to attack President Obama on anything.

And the most absurd part of these attacks is that with almost every single one of them — a Republican has done it before.

He’s the “Vacationer in Chief!” — Bush took far more vacation days.

He’s a tyrant who abuses the executive order! — Reagan issued far more executive orders.

He’s presided over the largest deficits in history! — Actually we’ve seen our largest reduction in deficits since just after World War II.

And now it’s Obama putting his foot on a desk.

I wish Republicans would just be honest.  Stop faking this “outrage” over these stupid things and just tell the truth — he’s half black, and that is what bothers them.

And that’s the one thing these Republicans from the past haven’t been.

Allen, we have plenty of fake outrage here in Tea Party Country (Johnson County, TX)- but you summed it up accurately “he’s half black, and that is what bothers them”. Sad, isn’t it…

    • Tea party hell yeah!

I don’t care if he’s half purple, his policies are killing this country and that is what he’s trying to do!

      • Cherylana

Which policies in particular are killing this country?????

  • Diane

Never expect a reasonable or sane response or statement from any Tea Party member. You cannot expect reason and sanity from the unreasonable and totally insane.

    • Desertmikey

      Yep, you can’t fix stupid!

  • Dan

    Here we go, cry racism…..

    • bobhuntsman

you got a better explanation, Dan??

      • dwb1957

I’d wager Dan doesn’t. Betcha Danny’s a big old bagger.

    • Brent Slensker

Hey Dan! I have 50 pics of Republicans doing the same thing! Hypocrite.

      • JKomar

True, an easy google search turned up pictures of Ford and Nixon with their feet on the same desk. Yet no outrage……

      • Pipercat

Yes! He’s a (fill in the blank)ist! Followed by the parrot points which were cranial downloaded earlier in the day…

    • sgtgwn

Yes, Dan. It IS racism. Pure and simple. Tea Baggers are tying themselves into knots trying to say that it’s not. But it is and it’s so blatant that it’s transparently pathetic.

      • Louanne

By the way, just for the record, racism works in more than one direction.

      • DJD11

Not in this case. This is pure and unadulterated (emphasis on the ‘unadult’).

        And that applies here how?

Did you just put your cell number, name and address on the web? Wow you are going to have more to worry about than civil rights for furniture……

      • Ily Michael

I repeat, what does reverse racism have to do with this?

      • Mase

Problem is folksdidnt lambaste Bush for putting foot on desk. You forget to mention the racism that didnt happen 😉

    • So, Dan? What other possible explanation is there?

I mean, really – look at the picture with George W. Bush with BOTH his feet up on the desk – nobody said a word about that. So…? What *is* the explanation, sport? C’mon! Tell us! I’m just dying to know what your explanation is.

    • suburbancuurmudgeon

Would there be so much Faux outrage if Obama were white?

      Not on your life.

      • Louanne

Hello, Suburbancuurmudgeon Deadhead (as am I). Obama is half white.

      • DJD11

But he doesn’t look it. Thus, they/you don’t care.

      • Chrisf

Oh, honey. Sweetie. Oh, dear, dear, dear. You have missed the point again. It’s okay; long ago I conceded the point that some people are simply ineducable, many of them through sheer force of will to stay ignorant. You just run along now, sugar. Bye-bye.

But the only thing Repulsicans see is black-and muslim.

    • DJD11

What else could it be, Dan?

  • Pipercat

I knew the synthetic-outrage machine would seize on this. So freaking predictable…

  • Guest

    bush-feet-desk.jpg

    • Louanne

That doesn’t make it right, Guest.

      • DJD11

That makes it “who the fuck cares”!

      • Louanne

I care, DJD11 – if your level of tolerance will allow that.

      • Shayberry

I agree with DJD11, Who cares. It’s just petty to make a big deal about it.

      • Ily Michael

It’s completely ignorant! Bush did it, Ford did it and probably every other president who used that desk…so what? Any little thing to attempt to disgrace the black man who made it in the white house. They’re not even intelligent enough to see that it makes them look like idiots, not Obama!

      • disqus_6AeSbMRBY2

Right or wrong, nobody bitched till President Obama did it. And THAT is the whole point.

  • Bobbie McMillan

    One word. Melanin.

    • Pipercat

Even a mere overabundance, no less!!

  • DallasJim

It’s his desk. He can tap dance on that Mickey bickey if he wants to.

  • JKomar

Where are all the complaints about photos of George Bush with his feet on the same desk?

    • Ily Michael

      And Gerald Ford

      • Shari D

And President Kennedy? President Johnson? et al…..

    • stx

Not they same desk. Pres. takes it with him, along with the carpet when he leaves, It IS his desk.

  • Martin

Wow get’em clue white trashman…All them have put foot on desk why you upset over Black man doing it?

  • Youarekiddingme

Hey they should be ecstatic with that picture. Don’t they notice that he’s making the sign of the gun with his hand! Geeez!!

  • Youarekiddingme

    Democrat: Foot on Desk.
    Republican: Foot in Mouth.

    • Pipercat

      and thumb in …

      • Robyn Kern

        ASS

  • Eh. They’re idiots. The entire teabagger thing boils down to “there’s a n******r in the White House.” And that’s an #EPICFAIL

  • Secret Keeper

Holy Crap, his elbow’s on the chair!!!

    • LateNightLarry

and his butt is IN the chair… Grow up RepubliCLOWNS and knuckle-dragging teanderthals… He is the duly elected President whether you want to accept it or not.

      • Flying Goat

And he’s talking on the phone! Our tax dollars pay for that phone, he shouldn’t be using them to run up his phone bill!

      • Irregardlessly

And it’s not just any Obamaphone…it’s THE Obamaphone!!

      • Desertmikey

Obama’s butt is in the same chair that formerly accommodated Bush’s butt??? Tell me that it’s not so!!! (sarcasm folks)

  • Robyn Kern

    Boy howdy ain’t that truth!!!!!!

  • Emma Tate

idiots, people just have to pick on the President about putting his foot on a piece of old wood it doesn’t matter how old it is are who gave to the White House it is still a piece of dead wood.

  • suburbancuurmudgeon

He’s half black, a Democrat AND a liberal and THAT’s what bothers them. Three strikes.

    • Louanne

That is a gross generalization and a cheap shot to insinuate that Republicans are racist. Have you forgotten the names Colin Powell and Condeleeza Rice and under whose administration they served?

      • DJD11

In your own words, “That doesn’t make it right.”

      • Ily Michael

LOL, and we’ve seen so much proof of their racist bs there is no question for anyone outside their party; we all know they’re racists that vowed to ruin Obama and they can’t even do that right!

      • Mase

Well, we can be sure they never put their foot on their desk!

      • Desertmikey

I’m a Democrat and I truly like Colin Powell and Condoleeza Rice. I’m glad they were a part of the Bush Administration. At least they both had a brain! I will remind you that Colin Powell has endorsed President Obama for both of his terms however. Did you forget that, Louanne???

    • DJD11

And he’s not even very liberal.

  • Mathew

As if anyone really cares that he put his foot on a desk. This is made up propaganda, because you idiots cannot come up with something better. Want to hear the truth? We don’t care if he does the moon walk on his desk. We don’t care about the color of his skin. We don’t care about what he ate for dinner. WE do care that he is a bold faced liar. We do care that he has done NOTHING to improve the economy. We do care that he passes laws behind closed doors against the wishes of the majority. We do care that he ignores states wishes are laws by raiding medical clinics taking medication away from the ill. We do care that he laughs at us when we tell him our wishes and ideas. There are a lot of other things that we do care about, but you are too closed minded to try to understand.

    • bill

Did nothing to improve the economy? Wall Street is posting record numbers. Unemployment has fallen.

Bold faced liar? Really? Because I see him trying to push for things the electorate wants but the republicans in the house kill every bill that come by. Good thing they keep voting to defund Obamacare instead of passing a jobs bill!

    • Pipercat

      Truth? A subjective notion…

    • Andy

Mathew, you do realize you are describing exactly what Republicans are doing across this country right now, you do don’t you? Unless I miss reading this…Sorry I am flummoxed, I can’t tell if what your position is, unless it is sarcasm.

    • Chrisf

Presidents don’t pass laws, you ignorant moron.
“We do care that he ignores states wishes are laws by raiding medical clinics taking medication away from the ill.”
What could this possibly mean? It looks like a bunch of English words, but… are they having some sort of party or something?
I DARE you to offer the tiniest sliver of proof regarding any of this libel. Go ahead. You can’t.
      And it’s “bald-faced,” halfwit.
      “Bold faced liar.” HAHAHAHAHA

  • Fred Flinstone

That is so wrong. This guy is anti American.

  • JOHNNYAMERICA

How dare he put his foot on that desk. MAH DADDY DIED FOR DAT DERE DESK!

    • Chrisf

      LOL! <3

  • disqus_bvzyOg5eso

Sounds to me like Boehner( Pronounced Boner) Is getting a woody over this crap!!!

    • Desertmikey

But Boner says his number one focus is “jobs”, or as he likes to call them, “Jobortions, Jobenghazi and repealing Jobamacare.

  • disqus_bvzyOg5eso

Repubs having a BIG case of Cranial-rectal inversion.

  • Kari

This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever read. It’s exactly why people are so polarized in this country. Your assumptions are beyond absurd. They are plain stupid.

  • Mike Williams

When I think of all the former Presidents and what they have put on that desk, I am shocked that President Obama would put his shoe on the desk. I mean damn, I hope he got that shoe cleaned afterwards. Hell, President Clinton put someone else on that desk, President Bush who nose, I dare say that there have been a lot of pages on that desk over the years.

Enjoy the mental images, and have a great day.

(before you comment every word is spelled exactly the way I intended it to be.)

    • Dave

Just think what Monica Lewinski did UNDER the desk (pant, pant, pant ooooohh)

  • Louanne

Sorry – it’s disrespectful for him to put his filthy shoes on a beautiful and no doubt expensive, vintage desk.

    • DJD11

What makes you think his shoes are filthy? Seriously.
Disrespectful to the desk? Disrespectful to you?
I can practically guarantee that EVERY President that has used that desk has put his feet up on it.
      WHO CARES?

      • Louanne

When was the last time you licked the bottom of a pair of shoes, DJD11? Again, I care. Where is the level of tolerance that Democrats profess to possess? I’m not seeing it here, DJD. I’m a social worker, so by definition, I’m tolerant – just not tolerant of disrespect. It’s unbecoming of a president to put his shoes on a desk. Am I allowed to feel that way?

      • Shayberry

Ok Louanny, you want to get on Obama’s case, I want you to name each and every president who had been in office with that desk and diss on them for doing the same thing. It’s a piece of wood and there is no reason to be that petty.

      • Chrisf

Now, now, Louanne might have some sort of mental disability or emotional disorder that causes sufferers to imbue inanimate objects with human emotions. Try to put yourself in Louanne’s shoes! (Oops, haha! Shoes!) Imagine it: pieces of furniture feel very sad when they are treated “disrespectfully,” treate like… well, like FURNITURE. Perhaps only the beautiful and expensive ones. Maybe the inexpensive pieces and ugly pieces don’t have feelings.
Louanne apparently also knows a thing or two about shoe-sole licking, and those of us who do not should not ridicule her inane and possibly insane statements.
It’s true, it seems, that it is sometimes hard to be compassionate with the mentally ill. But we should try, don’t you think?
        Chrisf

      • Ily Michael

Anyone who would be offended by this pic HAS to have mental issues! Especially since they never raised a fuss when any of the many white Presidents did it before him, and I’m sure will after!

      • DJD11

I’ve never licked the bottom of a pair of shoes. I’ve never licked a desk either.
Of what are we being intolerant? Nobody has reported you to the admin.
It’s very nice that you are a social worker. But, you need to be tolerant by profession, not definition.
Yes, you are allowed to feel just about any way you want, just as I am allowed to feel that it’s incredibly ridiculous for anyone to make even the smallest of deals about something as inconsequential as the President putting his feet up on a desk.
I am done with this discussion.

    • Lyola M Roeske Shafer

It must be the ‘expensive” part that gets to you. This President can put is feet anywhere he wants to.

    • Mase

How do you know his shoes are filthy? Does he walk in mud all day? If he did you think he wouldn’t change shoes? Get a brain lol. Look at your hero republiCON presidents doing the same thing.

  • Louanne

Speaking of racist, how ’bout those so-called reverends, Sharpton and Jackson?

  • Louanne

It’s not just a piece of wood. Someone like your father or mine took the time to design and build that desk. Furthermore, our nation has become one of slobs that many excuse as casualness. Everywhere I go, I see people – especially those in their 20s – with their shoes on chairs – in hospitals, doctors waiting rooms, libraries and even restaurants. Imagine sitting in your clean slacks on a seat where someone had their dog manure laden shoes. Then you get in your car, then you go home and sit on your nice, clean sofa – or worse – on your clean sheets. Nice image, huh? BTW, on a separate note, I like the Louanny. Nice touch. 🙂

  • MsYellowDog

HIS desk. HIS phone. HIS office. HIS foot. HE earned it.

    • OURCountry

No, that’s OUR desk. OUR phone. OUR office. And he didn’t do anything to earn it; we ELECTED him in a democratic process to serve the people. The Republic belongs to the people, not the politicians.

  • Chuck D

I have some people get so angry with me when I say all this faux-rage is purley race based, but it’s the only logical explanation. People have just been drinking the Kool-Aid for far too long to not see how they’re being manipulated.

  • Lyola M Roeske Shafer

I ‘m having trouble expressing my OUTRAGE at the stupidity of Republicans. The only thing to be thankful for is that they really do not catch on to the fact that they make more and more enemies with their hatred.

    • Desertmikey

Nor do they catch on to the fact that they sound more and more ridiculous. However, now that Obamacare is taking hold, they need something else to whine about.

  • Ray

Well nobody has to worry about a Repug getting their feet anywhere near that desk for a long, LONG time!

  • Shari D

The minute I saw this picture posted, I KNEW that was going to happen!! I KNEW there was going to be all this fake “OUTRAGE” over the President putting his foot up on HIS own desk!! And it IS his desk, as long as he is the President, just like the White House is his home. He is not a guest in that house, he is the President, and he and his family are the residents of that house, just like every other President before him, and every other President after him will be. And anyone who says there are NO images of every other President in the history of this country, outside of Roosevelt, for obvious reasons, who had HIS foot on the desk is a liar, or a very bad researcher. Can we PLEASE get back to things that matter, tell the TRUTH about them, and get this place back where it belongs?? Or is that too much to ask?? Of course, the truth of the matter is exactly as stated above – that he’s half-black, and THAT is what they have ALWAYS had trouble with. Nothing else. But they refuse to admit it, no matter how incredibly obvious it is to the rest of us.

  • Brian Lewis

None of you mindless drones have any sense of patriotism do you!? I couldn’t care less what color, religion, political party or gender the person running things is, as long as they are 1-American … 2-Concerned with protecting the constitution and 3-at least trying to make this country worth something again. That arrogant piece of shit in the Whitehouse now doesn’t fit ANY of those criteria. Do none of you care that he wants to start what could become ww3 to help his friends in al-Qaida? He has no cares for the American people yet you asshats will defend him blindly all day long. Seriously what is wrong with your brains if you can’t filter through the democratic and republican vs and find the truth yourselves.
