House Intelligence Committee Quietly Releases Embarrassing Benghazi Report Before Running Off For Thanksgiving Recess

fox-news-benghaziRemember how Republicans swore up and down that they would get to the bottom of the Benghazi incident? Remember how they wouldn’t rest until they had damning evidence tying the entire event to a conspiracy by Hillary Clinton to destroy evidence of President Obama’s real birth certificate and a photo showing him shaking hands with Osama Bin Laden? You may think I’m being facetious, but as worked up as the “Obummer’s gonna take mah gunz and freedumbs” crowd was over Benghazi, that’s not a far stretch.

Well, for all the huffing and puffing that they did, finally the House Intelligence Committee wrapped up their investigation and released their shocking report that would finally show that Hillary Clinton herself was responsible and end her assumed campaign in 2016.

So what was in that report? Surely after all of the hoopla and accusations of cover-ups, our fearless investigators on the House Intelligence Committee would finally get to the bottom of it and we would be SHOCKED by what they found. There would be a press conference called and together, Trey Gowdy and John Boehner would proudly announce that they had names of people who misled them and the SHOCKING paper trail went all the way to the Oval Office. There would be resignations and indictments and heads would roll…oh wait, that’s not what happened:

The House Intelligence Committee report was released with little fanfare on the Friday before Thanksgiving week. Many of its findings echo those of six previous investigations by various congressional committees and a State Department panel. The eighth Benghazi investigation is being carried out by a House Select Committee appointed in May.

The attacks in Benghazi killed U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens, foreign service officer Sean Smith, and two CIA contractors, Tyrone S. Woods and Glen Doherty. A Libyan extremist, Ahmed Abu Khatalla, is facing trial on murder charges after he was captured in Libya and taken to the U.S. (Source)

You read that right, Republicans very quietly released the report before scurrying out of town for Thanksgiving recess. Not only that, but they also released it right after President Obama’s announcement on executive action on immigration, to make sure their waste of time and taxpayer money was completely buried in the news cycle. Yes, they waited to release the findings that will make the next Benghazi investigation that Senator Lindsey Graham wants to hold in 2015 look even more ridiculous than this one.

But wouldn’t the House Intelligence Committee find something? Maybe find out that Susan Rice lied or that she was told to lie by the White House, by Obama even? Nope, nope and nope.

Some of the harshest charges have been leveled at Rice, now Obama’s national security adviser, who represented the Obama administration on Sunday talk shows the weekend after the attack. Rice repeated talking points that wrongly described a protest over a video deemed offensive to Muslims.

But Rice’s comments were based on faulty intelligence from multiple agencies, according to the report. Analysts received 21 reports that a protest occurred in Benghazi, the report said —14 from the Open Source Center, which reviews news reports; one from the CIA; two from the Defense Department; and four from the National Security Agency. (Source)

So will this be the end of the Benghazi hoopla from the far right? Will they finally accept defeat and move on to the next great conspiracy and the 6th annual “Obama’s coming for your 2nd Amendment rights” gun sale? Perhaps Fox and Friends will cook up a new boogeyman or revive the good old standby, the Obamacare death panels? Nope, nope and again, nope. You see, they have so much time and energy invested in Benghazi that they’ll never let it go – at least not until after Hillary Clinton’s second term is up. You really have to feel sorry for them, Benghazi’s all they’ve got.

What a silly waste of resources from the small government, cut spending dumbasses.

At last!! You can make more money in Mini-time at your home on internet on laptop and You can earn Profit in same time doing other jobs… Last Monday I got a brand new BMW since getting a check for $6474 this – 4 weeks past. I began this 8-months ago and immediately was bringing home at least $77 per hour. I work through this link, go to tech tab for work detail,,,………….

    • Eg Kbbs

Foxnews dot com is reporting that Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-SC is calling for the investigation to be expanded to a Senate investigation.

I guess I shouldn’t be surprised, but AARGH!!

  • Eg Kbbs

Did I say Benghazi ? I really meant to say immigrants form Hawaii bringing Ebola into the country. Why won’t anyone listen ? /snark.

In all seriousness, Benghazi lasted long enough to keep the House repubs from doing their job on such trivial matters as passing a Budget (uh, how long has it been since we’ve seen a real budget. Not one in a huge font so nothing of substance could be included, not one consisting of blank pages with no numbers waving in Boehner’s hand, …….). And hey, they promised at this time last year that immigration reform would be their #1 priority as soon as they got back together in 2014.

  • TaxPaying American Voter

You can’t fix the House. It is broken to a point of pure ignorance.

  • pbeeg

The real reason they can’t let go of Benghazi is it’s their smoke screen to disguise the fact that they have NO foreign policy ideas. Not even bad ones (the way they do with domestic policy). They don’t know who to like or what actions to take.

  • Darrell Issa came into office vowing to hold hearings as long as he’s in Congress. That’s it… hold hearings.

So far he’s batting .000 – and so are the rest of these partisan hacks.

  • barefoot bob

Republican’ts are so embarrassing, and costly. What a shame, and a sham.

  • Franklin Boyd

We are a nation polluted by a large swath of ignorant, semi literate ,insular , bible thumping , gun humping imbeciles, that seem to be huddled in rural America and especially the South. Their electoral choices have set this country back at least three decades. Their preference of social policies that reflect a 19th century mindset ,will eventually do even more damage ,unless there is a mass movement within the blue states to stop further advances by these Neanderthal savages.

    • Pipercat

That pollution is being exploited to mire the narrative with conspiracy theories, false accusations, hyper-partisanship and of course, fear. Those committing this exploitation perpetrate this because a distracted population is just plain good business sense!

      • Franklin Boyd

True…however, there is a large, willingly stupid audience for this sort of narrative, because the messages being what they are, suit the shallow ideology of these simpletons.

      • Pipercat

I’ve describe the practice before as, using vapidware. Keep the masses distracted with mindless nonsense; while at the same time, pick their pockets. This last election was a good example of how this can work. Dreadful, just dreadful.

      • Bob Feger

Sore loser! You can’t continue to run this country into the ground and spend spend money you don’t have and to take from working people to support the liberal left wingers give-a-way progressive policies.

      • Fabj

Conservatives just spent over $60 million and 2000 plus man hours on this. How dumb do you have to be to even make this statement. It’s like you have no idea what just happened. Your checkbook is the sore loser. Less radio please. You hicks need to stop worshipping your radio gods. At least worship someone with an actual job.

      • Rob Bailey

Sure thing, Bob. Long as you get your Social Security and Medicare and pay sales tax out the ass while the top 5% pay an effective tax rate of 10%… You – along with about half the country – have been fooled. The cons wave a shiny thing in front of you – a gun or a Gay person – and you go to the polls to vote against your own interests.

      • SLP

What? You complain about spending without realizing how much these needless investigations have cost? What about the needless cost of trying to stop the ACA? Turn off Fox. Your brain will be better off.

      • Pipercat

It’s apparent you have no idea what my comment was about. That’s okay though, I’ll make it easy for you: It was about the oligarchy and not about a bunch of dipstick partisan stooges.

      • Speely

        2000 to 2008 says hello.

I know partisans of your particular stripe like to pretend that those years (and the economic ruin they inflicted on everyone except the ubiquitous 1%) didn’t ever happen, but guess what? They did.

Your preferred politics have failed this country again and again and again since 1980. It’s time for you and your conservative buddies to sit down and shut up.

      • Franklin Boyd

        Tired old drivel….

      • Speely

I am also highly amused by the fact that you’re too cowardly to come back and defend your position. Come on back, Bob, tell us more about how the party that hasn’t finished a year without a deficit since Eisenhower is the party of ‘fiscal responsibility’ and that the only party to create a budget surplus when they get into power is the “give-a-way” party.

      • Franklin Boyd

You’ll find that intellectually challenged people like Bob Feger and his ilk, don’t even know who Eisenhower is .

      • What happened, Bob? Did you get too scared to try to show us all how wrong we are? Didn’t you come armed with proof to support your arguments?

….naah, looking at your comment history, it’s obvious you’re too cowardly to do anything more than drive-by commenting. Like most of your regressive republican compatriots, you can’t defend your arguments, so you scream them at the top of your lungs and then run away so you won’t hear anyone respond, and then go to your rightwing nutjob echo chambers and tell all your tea party friends how you “schooled those dumb libs.”

C’mon back sometime, princess, and try to defend yourself if you’re not too afraid.

      • It’s all back firing on them. After all of these decades, the neanderthals were quietly gathering and winning seats. They staged a coup of the republican party before the conservatives understood they were being replaced and beaten from within. This would be a marvelous cautionary tale, if it didn’t endanger us all.

      • Pipercat

All they need to do is push a little more. Surprisingly, the old guard actually won more seats than the tin foil brigade.

    • Eddie

Franklin Boyd…your proctology report just came in…Good news..They found your head !

    • J. Starr

And YOU are stereotyping on a GRAND scale, while implying some “moral superiority”, so HOW is what YOU are doing any different from what you just accused the majority of Americans of being?
Referring to people you “disagree with” as “pollutants” is proof of your own lack of morality, and/or desire to have ALL people treated fairly…

  • leitskev

The admin lied repeatedly about aspects of the Benghazi incident. Including Carney’s numerous lies about such things as the talking points memo. The admin has also withheld requested emails. So there was plenty of reason to investigate this, and early investigations were clearly compromised.

If nothing substantial was found…good! But it’s still worth trying to get to the bottom of things. A problem that is acute because the media just will not investigate Dem administrations, leaving that task to Congress, Fox News, and a few small groups.

All admins need to be kept accountable. Not just Republican ones.

    • michele1240

NO ONE has yet to hold the GOP responsible for crashing our economy and miring us in foreign wars that benefited ONLY the wealthy. W and his evil lord Cheney along with the rest of his yahoo cabinet should be rotting in prison right now for lying to the American People and the world!!! I guess you dont have a kid serving just to make BP and Exxon and Haliburton more profitable.

      • leitskev

The Iraq war was a strategic mistake. I always thought so, and the last year’s events confirms it. But it was not a war crime. Obama is facing many of the same problems right now. What do you do with a region that spawns terrorism because it is unable to join the modern world? Stay out of their business? Ok, fine, but what happens when there are genocides as in Syria and Iraq, where ancient peoples are enslaved and murdered? I don’t know the answers to these difficult questions. Neither did Bush, and neither does Obama. It’s a thankless job. You don’t throw people in jail when they were doing their best.

But we are talking about keeping an admin, any admin, honest. That requires Congressional oversight and a media willing to dig deeply and hold the government’s feet to the fire. But in our country, only Republicans are investigated by the media. Look at Sharyl Attkisson, formerly of CBS. The only mainstream reporter willing to investigate this admin, and she was silenced. That’s not healthy in any democracy.

      • suesista

Atkisson wasn’t silenced…she’s still giving interviews, still talking. That’s not silence. Her “hacking” has been debunked, and a once-respected reporter has descended into conspiracy-land. That’s why she’s been embraced by conspiracy-obsessed RW media.

      • leitskev

What are you Putin? silencing doesn’t mean killing someone. When CBS suddenly refuses to air stories that their multi-award winning reporters is uncovering, that is silencing. Recent emails obtained through FOI show that the WH and DOJ coordinated with CBS to silence her stories. And that is exactly what happened.

Her hacking was not debunked at all. The video she showed was questioned and possibly explained as a malfunction. But CBS confirmed that 3 of her computers were hacked by a “sophisticated” entity that also took steps to cover its tracks. Look it up. Nothing has been debunked at all, except in the kool drinking world.

      • J. Starr

The “crashing of the economy” began the year that Pelosi and Reid took control of Congress, and immediately UPPED the stakes in their partisan wars.
ALL OF YOU PARTISAN LOYALISTS are too stupid to see that you are misled, and your loyalty misplaced!

NEITHER PARTY GIVES a rat’s posterior about “WE THE PEOPLE”!

    • Dave Taylor

Eight investigations all found the same answers, no lies, no coverups, no anything, please give it up and move on, get a life.

      • leitskev

Not true. And much still has not emerged. Did you forget the documents and emails have been held under executive privilege?

But none of this lying would have happened if we had a fair and honest media. The administration tried to push the video thing because they knew the media would play ball. They lied about the preparation of the talking points for the same reason. Have another drink of kool aid.

      • Dave Taylor

Read the report, it debunks everything you have been told by fox

      • suesista

You’re encased in a bubble of denial, and I know how painful it must be. For anyone who has invested so much energy and emotion into something, it is extremely difficult to overcome. I almost feel bad for your dilemma. Almost. It’s not the media, it’s not Obama or Hillary—it’s the fundraising arm of the GOP. Hope they didn’t soak you for too much.

      • leitskev

You are rambling. I’m bored, so I’ll play a minute if you like. What is it specifically you think I am denying? Let me list my claims if it helps.

        1) the media has always been in the tank for Democrats. The way scandals were covered under Bush compared to Obama is overwhelming proof. The Valery Plame and the US Attorneys scandals were broadcast on the networks every night for months. None of the Obama scandals got anything close to that. In fact, the Obama scandals are ignored until after elections or until there is so much evidence that it becomes impossible for networks to ignore. Basically the networks are the reverse image of Fox News. They every bit as biased, just from the opposite side.

        2) not only is the media in the tank for Dems because they share the same ideology, this admin is particularly guilty of twisting arms and orchestrating behind the scenes. Even liberal outlets like the NYT have called what this admin does unprecedented.

        3) this administration has proven to be unusually dishonest. Blatant lying takes place on almost any scandal. Just this week alone, the admin(and the President himself) lied on Gruber, on the Keystone, and on Obama’s past statements on immigration reform. I’m not talking spin. I’m talking lies. You may agree with all of his decisions on these things. Fine. But it doesn’t change the fact he lied on all three. He tried to pretend Gruber was not part of his healthcare staff. He tried to pretend Gruber was the one lying, that they were straightforward with the public when they sold healthcare. That’s a lie. Obama told us none of the oil coming from Canada on that pipeline would be used in the US. A lie. And he denied that when last year on numerous times that he had the legal authority for this immigration order he was talking about the same thing he’s doing now. Even the Wash Post called this a lie.

So what am I in denial about?

      • Tony

talk about rambling…take a breath (preferably one filled with cyanide gas). politicians lied. that never happens, right? was it worth 60 million dollars to discover that people were a bit confused after a terror attack? you bring up Gruber re: benghazi? why? to show “lies”. you guys said he was lying all along, but you’ve been proven (mostly) wrong, so who is the TRUE liar?

      • leitskev

Wishing death to those one disagrees with? Sure sign of leftie. And how about the irony of this “rambling” post of his? Lightweight.

      • J. Starr

Wishing a painful DEATH on a person who is demanding truth and accountability from our “employees” in DC?
WOW, you have surely CONVINCED dozens of sheep to agree with you with THAT tactic…

      • Tony

awwww….but hurt over the benghazi report?

      • J. Starr

No, just angry that OUR “employees” are so dishonest with US, and that some twits think that it is acceptable!

      • Angela Walker

Nothing quite so funny and kinda sad as a Benghazigate truther who has so much invested in the lies and innuendos he eagerly swallowed up from the right wing media that he can’t let it go. And the funniest is when he suggests other people who don’t see the world through the same twisted lens are ‘drinking the kool aid’.
Holy guacamole, pumpkin. Let it go. Your embrace of this politically motivated meme has done nothing but make you look laughable.

      • Fabj

You are failing bad. You have not read the report. People like you are part of the problem. You have done zero research on this.

      • leitskev

I’ve read the report. Have you? Doubt it.

      • SLP

Trey Gowdy promised he would would find something and found NOTHING. Who is drinking kool aid???? My god, what will it take for you knuckleheads to finally ducking let it go?

      • leitskev

This was not Gowdy’s report; his investigation is still ongoing.

      • Rory

I’m hearing a lot about the Republicans wasting all this time on Benghazi but if it was one of your loved ones that was killed you would want it investigated. I would like to know the in excess of 300 bills on Harry Reid’s desk that he has been holding and not letting them get passed his grimy little hands all this time. Some may be minor and some may not but we won’t know until the Republicans take over in January. How come no one is expressing any anger and neglect on that?

      • Tony

even stevens family said it was pointless. be up to date before jamming your foot in your mouth. 300 bills have NOTHING to do with wasting 60 million bucks.

    • suesista

In other words—you reject the House report and all the others, while the rest of the world laughs at your obsession and gullibility. You just skip merrily past ALL the findings, and hang out in a rabbit-hole of conspiracy theories.

      • leitskev

I don’t reject the House report. And having just read it, I don’t change anything I’ve said. All I have ever claimed was that the administration pushed a false narrative(the video) and that Carney lied about the WH influence on Rices’s talking points. The House report does not deal with those things. It focuses on what happened in Benghazi, and a little on the information that led to the talking points. It blames most of that on the CIA. But that doesn’t change the fact that the WH had a huge input and Carney lied about that for a year. The biggest issue with Benghazi, based on the report, is for Hillary. There were ample warnings for a long time, and the CIA provided heavy security. All of the problems stemmed from the State Dept.

All I have ever expected was a thorough investigation.

      • Guest

So your REAL problem is about who pushed the talking points after-the-fact? In the end, those who were killed, would still be dead. It’s a weak conspiracy at best. At least claim that Hillary was working with terrorists to allow it to happen! Come on man, that’s Conspiracy Theory 101.

      • leitskev

My problem was that they purposely mislead the public in an election year. They were running on the idea that al qaeda had been destroyed. This proved it wrong. They had been running on the notion of foreign policy success. Having toppled Kaddaffi, and having ignored bold lettered signs about problems in Benghazi, they ran a consulate with no security(it was entrusted to unarmed Libyans allied with extremists).

Embassies get attacked, it’s not always the admin’s our the State Dept’s fault. This was a colossal failure of policy and of ideology(the small footprint). And the pushed the video narrative to hide all of that from the public.

What bothers me most is not so much that they spun this, that’s understandable. With bothers me most is that they are able to get away with it because the compliant media is literally in their pocket. Network executives hang in the same circles; network reporters take jobs at the WH then return later to their network perches. It’s insular. And when personal friendships and common ideology are insufficient for them to control the message, they are not afraid to use intimidation and arm twisting on a level never seen before. Even the NYT has said as much.

And Republicans in Congress know this. This is why they grandstand their investigations…it’s the only way to draw attention. Democrats don’t have to do this. Let’s look at Valery Plame.

That scandal was in the news every night for half a year of more. And the whole thing turned out to be nothing. Even the Wash Post, which began the whole thing, quietly published a retraction a year later. Why wasn’t the media more suspicious the way they are with Dem scandals? Wilson, her husband, was the one who exposed his wife in a Wash Post article. And Wilson was pining for a job in the Kerry future administration.

Also look at the Attorney’s scandal where W fired lawyers in the DOJ who refused to prosecute the law because they had extremists ideological views. This “scandal” was in the news every night.

None of the Obama scandals get anything like that coverage. The media does everything it can to ignore anything that will hurt this man. That’s why conservatives demand investigations. We know the media won’t create any pressure.

      • Tony

misled the electorate in an election year…MAN you guys live in the biggest, most impenetrable bubble. stick with guns and tea…stay away from electronic devices, esp voting machines.

    • Allen Acuff

Bull shit. They have had Senate hearings House hearings Committee hearings Over 114 total now and NONE have found any cove up. Even Military record released showed FOX lied repeatedly about the stand down order. Give it up. It was a CIA gun running base that got over run THATS IT.

      • leitskev

Actually, I read the report, and there was no CIA gun running operation. And I didn’t use the word cover up I don’t believe. But there was lying and deception. At some point in the hours or days after the event, everyone knew there was no protest, that this was an organized attack. But they stuck with the video narrative. No Congressional investigation was even needed for that.

    • Fabj

Yes. They lied about things they were never found guilty of after 2 years and millions of dollars spent on investigating. It always makes sense to lie when you don’t have to. Said no one ever.

    • SLP

Hahahahahaaaaaa! Wow. Yes, let’s leave serious investigations up to Fox noise.

  • ltneid

    Gruber is the new Benghazi.

  • Colleen Gomez

I’m sure they had these findings in time to release them before the the midterm election.
But that’s okay because anyone who believed that would never vote left anyway, so I guess it didn’t hurt us really

  • They just elected Hillary Clinton President in 2016…

  • Cherry Bành

Close eyes and you can’t see a thing so get your head out of your azz ..Believe the guys that fought not the idiots that feeding the idiots lies.

  • JPNAmerican

Weren’t we all taught the boy who cried wolf story when we were children? I mean common for 6 years President Obama has been slandered and attacked by the Republicans and not a single conviction. All over the country Republican anti gay bills are being declared unconstitutional and yet Obama is the one shredding up the constitution?

  • suesista

They can’t accept it or their heads would explode. Fox devoted 30 seconds to the report, but never revealed what it said—instead went straight to their continuing conspiracy madness….”But we still don’t know who blah blah blah and we still must question why blah blah blah, and when did they blah blah blah.”

  • Farleyagain

Lying is par for the course for politicians. The fact that live video feed was streamed to the Situation Room during the attack and that all available forces nearby were told to stand down (and two high ranking officers lost their commands as a result of attempting to mount a response) and that the consulate and annex were overrun and our Ambassador and his aid were murdered along with two others sure looks like dereliction of duty at the least no matter what any investigation report says. The obvious facts are damning.

  • Jack McKechnie

Fox News and that bunch of jackals from The Five on Saturday never mentioned one word about this report…..not worth one word… when they drilled it day after day after day. When will the FCC finally realize they resemble a political action Com. and not a news station.

  • mexhapati

all things must pass… the system is not broken, beyond repair it’s totalled… too bad, it was good while it lasted but alas, run into the ground ..

  • J. Starr

This “story” is childish prating with NO intrinsic value whatsoever. I am now thoroughly disgusted that I wasted 2 minutes of MY time reading this partisan drivel!

  • Jim Chavez

sad they used the murders of four brave American’s for political gain.

  • Thomas R Burnsed Jr

    Lots of angry people here.
