Republicans Won’t Release Benghazi Report Until 2016, Claim Timing Has Nothing To Do With Election

September 11, 2015 will mark the third anniversary of the terrorist attack on our embassy in Benghazi, Libya that tragically took the lives of four Americans. And as most are well aware of, it’s also an attack Republicans have pathetically tried to politicize in a desperate attempt to slander both President Obama and Hillary Clinton.

Of course, this is despite multiple investigations (even one recently led by Republicans) concluding that there was no conspiracy, cover-up or any other sort of nefarious behavior stemming from the Obama administration concerning the attack. Yet despite those facts, that hasn’t stopped conservatives from doing everything they possibly can to perpetuate this idea that there’s still a lot of unanswered questions concerning the attack.

There aren’t – because we already what happened. Hell, we’ve known what happened for a while now. The only people buying into this ridiculous Republican witch hunt are conservatives who continue to blindly trust the right-wing media which, of course, isn’t telling them that even Republican-led investigations have concluded that all of these absurd conspiracies surrounding the attack have been soundly debunked.

But we all know why Republicans continue to try to keep this “story” in the news – they want to use it against Hillary Clinton in 2016.

That was basically confirmed when a report from Bloomberg stated that another Republican-led investigation into the 2012 attack won’t be released until next year.

How convenient.  Who could have ever predicted Republicans would string this circus out until 2016? Oh, I did – two years ago.

“Factors beyond the committee’s control, including witness availability, compliance with documents requests, the granting of security clearances and accreditations—all of which are controlled by the Executive branch—could continue to impact the timing of the inquiry’s conclusion,” Jamal Ware, spokesman for the U.S. House Select Committee on Benghazi said in a statement.

In other words, Republicans are comically trying to blame the delay in this new investigation on the Obama administration.

If anyone believed for even a second that Republicans weren’t going to drag this out up until just before the 2016 presidential election, they’re either lying to themselves, naive or both.

It’s been so blatantly obvious what Republicans have been trying to do with this entire ordeal that I’ve suggested that Republicans need to be investigated for wasting millions of taxpayers dollars conducting frivolous investigations for political purposes. Because that’s exactly what they’re doing.

The truth is, Republicans are conducting these fake investigations in a desperate attempt to find anything they might possibly be able to link back to any number of already debunked conspiracies they’ve been pushing for years.

Of course, that’s not how “investigations” are supposed to work. An investigation is supposed to be someone, or a group of people, using facts to figure out what occurred during a certain event. But when it comes to the Benghazi attack, we already know what happened. These “investigations” are nothing more than petty partisan politics to find anything they might be able to use next year to say, “See! Hillary Clinton was involved in a massive cover-up of incompetence and deceit, she can’t be trusted!”

They already know that it won’t matter if what they’ll say next year is true or not; Republicans know that all they need to try to do is create enough uncertainty surrounding Hillary that it might be just enough to get people to vote against her. And if that strategy works, which is clearly what they’re doing with this, it won’t matter if their lies are debunked after the election – because by then it will be too late.

The saddest part of all of this isn’t how pathetically transparent Republicans are being with this, but that tens of millions of Americans are too blind to see it.
