Ret. Major General’s Response to ‘Authoritarian’ Trump’s Military Parade is Perfect

It’s clear to anyone with even an ounce of common sense that Donald Trump desperately wishes he could be an authoritarian dictator who answers to absolutely no one but himself. Thankfully our Constitution prevents him from being the true tyrant he’d love to be, but make no mistake about it, this is as close as the United States has ever been to being ruled by a dictator.

Case in point, Trump’s pathetic desire to have a massive military parade much like you’d see in nations such as Russia or North Korea. While it’s meant to serve as a showing of strength, it’s really nothing more than a display of weakness and insecurity — which is why it makes perfect sense that Trump, possibly the most weak and insecure human being on the planet, would want one to stroke his fragile ego.

While I have my doubts as to whether or not this parade will actually take place, that hasn’t stopped many people from expressing their opinion on Trump’s desire to spend millions of the taxpayer’s dollars to stroke his own ego.

One of those people happens to be Retired Major General Paul Eaton who perfectly slammed the Draft-Dodger-in-Chief’s desire for a military parade in his honor:

Donald Trump has continually shown himself to have authoritarian tendencies, and this is just another example.

For someone who just declared it was ‘treasonous’ to not applaud him, and for someone who has, in the past, admired the tactics of everyone from Saddam Hussein to Vladimir Putin, it is clear that a military parade isn’t about saluting the military — it’s about making a display of the military saluting him.

The military is not Donald Trump’s to use and abuse in this way. Our military is the very best in the world — they are not to be reduced to stagecraft to prop up Donald Trump’s image. Any commander in chief who respects the traditions of the military would understand that.

Unfortunately, we do not have a commander in chief, right now, as much as we have a banana republic strong man.

Again, those are words from a retired major general perfectly ripping into Trump for doing what most rational people realize he’s doing with this parade — trying to honor himself.

Trump doesn’t want this parade to honor the men and women in uniform and the vets who’ve defended this country. He wants this parade for the same reason why all dictators want them: to make himself look powerful.

As we’ve seen time after time from Trump, he has absolutely no respect for our military, veterans, or their families. From belittling Sen. John McCain’s war record, to lying about how much money he had raised for veterans groups so that he’d look good during his campaign, to even calling a Gold Star widow a liar, “cadet bone spur” (as Rep. Tammy Duckworth likes to call him for dodging the draft due to bone spurs) has a well-established history of disrespecting our military and veterans for his own benefit.

That’s exactly what this parade would be if it’s allowed to take place. A massive, very expensive spectacle funded by taxpayers where Donald Trump uses the military as nothing more than a prop in a desperate attempt to make the world think he’s “powerful” when he’s nothing but a weak, cowardly, insecure loser.
