Last night, Full Frontal’s Samantha Bee finally had her moment to chime in on Monday evening’s big presidential debate. As someone who’s not afraid to speak her mind, I was looking forward to hearing what she had to say about one of Donald Trump’s most embarrassing nights of his entire campaign.
Well, she did not disappoint.
“Just say penis, Don,” Bee quipped after airing a clip of Trump saying Clinton doesn’t have the ‘stamina’ to be president. “Three-syllable words don’t suit you.”
She then mocked Trump for saying Clinton had been “fighting ISIS her entire adult life.”
“That’s true,” Bee said. “Hillary started fighting ISIS in 1965 when she took a gap year from Wellesley to go be a guerilla fighter in Aleppo.”
Bee then expressed sympathy for moderator Lester Holt’s unenviable task of having to fact-check someone like Trump, who lies so frequently it’s nearly impossible to keep up.
After talking about the Trump campaign practically bragging about his lack of preparation for the debate, Bee mocked them for criticizing Clinton who actually took some time off from campaigning to prepare for the extremely important event.
Next up the Full Frontal host brought up Trump’s appearance on Fox & Friends where he apparently felt like it would be a good idea to follow up his debate denial of belittling a former Miss Universe winner for supposedly being fat — by saying that she had “gained a massive amount of weight and it was a real problem.”
Again, Trump gets by with saying things that would end the campaigns of practically any other human being running for office. It’s a testament to how awful he is that denying he called a woman overweight, then giving an interview where he said her weight was a “real problem,” isn’t even considered much of a story based upon his extensive history of disgusting comments.
After that she played comments made by Megyn Kelly from just after the debate, saying she hoped Trump would talk to the “journalists in this room” after he was finished talking to fellow Fox News employee Sean Hannity.
“Today I saw Megyn Kelly use her mean girl superpower for good,” Bee said, pretending to write in a diary.
She concluded the segment by showing remarks made by Trump that seemed to have been planned from the beginning, where he tried to paint himself as a “nice guy” by saying he could have said really mean things about Hillary Clinton and her family but he wanted to be “nice.”
“Oh, say it. Please say it — I dare you,” Bee stated.
The more I watch Samantha Bee, the more I enjoy her. She gives us a great mix of witty, sarcastic and passionate commentary that makes you feel like, while still sensationalized for entertainment value, what she’s saying is genuinely how she feels.
