For months I had been looking forward to Samantha Bee’s new show Full Frontal on TBS. While I find Bee to be hilarious, the debut of her show was rather historic as she became the first female to have her own late night talk show.
And I was not disappointed. From the start Bee didn’t hold back, calling this year’s election “the most deranged electoral sh*t show in a generation.”
After ribbing both Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders for various reasons, Bee turned her attention to the real circus this election season: The Republican party.
“We wrote like two hours of jokes about Democrats,” Bee quipped. “But we had to throw them all out because then the Republicans laid out a banquet of all you can eat crazy.”
She started off with Iowa where she said voters had selected “fist-faced horsesh*t salesmen, Ted Cruz, as their prized heifer.” Though she mocked the fact that Cruz didn’t get the usual “bump” most candidates get after winning the first state, instead pointing out that Marco Rubio stole any momentum he might have gained with his third place finish.
“Cruz’s Iowa bump was snatched by Marco Rubio,” she stated. “Third in Iowa, second in New Hampshire – first to exploit his kids for a photo-op.”
Bee then aired a clip from the recent New Hampshire Republican debate where things went “off the rails” right from the very beginning when the candidates apparently had trouble with their introductions, with the ABC moderators announcing “ladies and gentlemen, the Republican candidates” – while there were still three empty podiums on stage. It was a rather embarrassing moment for both ABC and these candidates.
“And that was just the first domino in a cascade of fail,” Bee said sarcastically.
After airing the part of the debate where Chris Christie laid into Rubio for constantly repeating his pre-rehearsed talking points, she then lit into the Florida senator for making one of the dumbest comments I’ve ever heard, when he accused Hillary Clinton of supporting abortions on the day the baby is due.
“That is literally the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard,” Bee said. “Removing a baby on the due date isn’t an abortion – it’s called a cesarean.”
“Keep telling your cabal of fetus fanatics that Hillary Clinton wants us to carry to term and then deliver our babies directly into a Vitamix so that Planned Parenthood can sell it to Whole Foods,” she continued.
Later on she went after Jeb Bush for running an absolutely abysmal campaign. Remember, at one point he literally tried to bash President Obama for being “too intelligent.”
I was absolutely entertained by the debut episode of Full Frontal. Samantha Bee has the type of comedic style, personality and wit that make her a great host. The lone complaint I have is that it only airs once a week.
