Samantha Bee’s Impassioned Response to Orlando Was Absolutely Flawless (Video)

There’s been absolutely no shortage of reactions to what transpired early Sunday morning with a monster opening fire at a gay nightclub in Orlando, killing 49 people while wounding 53 others. It’s a tragedy that’s rocked not only this country, but the entire world. The shooting, itself, carries with it so many different facets, from the killer declaring his allegiance to ISIS; the target being a gay club; the fact that, despite the reality he had been on a terror watch list and had a history of violence, he was still legally allowed to buy guns; to the growing evidence that he could have very well been a closeted homosexual, himself.

As expected, many Republicans have only chosen to focus on the Muslim part of the whole situation while ignoring the fact that this seems to have been a hate crime carried out by a madman, who was only allowed to buy the guns he used to slaughter these people because of the NRA stances the GOP has embraced for decades. There’s no logical reason why someone who had been on a terror watch list and had a history of violence should have been allowed to purchase guns – yet sadly Republicans have refused to entertain the idea of any sort of common sense gun reform, so this psychopath used legally purchased guns to carry out what most are calling a terrorist attack.

Well, on Monday, Samantha Bee set the record straight. In one of the most impassioned segments I’ve ever seen from the Full Frontal host, she went on a nearly eight minute rant about this shooting that was absolutely flawless.

“The standard operating procedure is that you stand on stage and deliver some well-meaning words about how we will all get through this together, how love wins, how love conquers hate,” Bee started off saying. “And that is great and that is beautiful. But you know what? F*ck it! I’m too angry for that! Love does not win unless we start loving each other enough to fix our f*cking problems!”

She then ran down how absurd it was that the killer was still legally allowed to purchase guns.

“He beat his ex-wife; he’d been reported, multiple times, to his employer as homophobic and unhinged; and the FBI had twice questioned him for ties to terrorism,” she added. “But none of these things disqualified him from legally buying a gun that shoots 45 rounds a minute.”

Bee then followed up with a clip of President Obama from two weeks ago discussing his disgust with the fact that there are people who we know have ties to terrorism, who can still legally purchase guns because the NRA and Republicans refuse to allow anything to be done to close that vulnerability.

After mocking Sen. Marco Rubio for discussing mass shootings as if it was “just Orlando’s turn,” she then brought up the fact that, following Australia’s ban on certain types of guns following the Port Arthur massacre in 1996, the country hasn’t seen a single mass shooting since. For those who don’t feel like doing the math, that’s zero mass shootings in over 20 years.

Please, tell me more about how gun regulations don’t work.

She then set her sights on Florida Gov. Rick Scott, hammering him for trying to play dumb about his state’s lax gun policies and mocking the fact that, like many other Republicans, he seems to think “thoughts and prayers” are going to solve this crisis.

If you have a few minutes, I’d encourage everyone to check out this segment. While Samantha Bee is known for being slightly over-the-top with her delivery, the emotion she displayed discussing what happened, the facts surrounding it and some of the responses was brilliant.
