I’m not going to mince words here. If you’re someone who trusts Sarah Palin’s thoughts on climate change (or anything scientific) over Bill Nye, you’re an absolute moron. Though it seems Palin believes that she’s just as qualified to discuss climate change as a well-respected individual like Bill Nye. You know, the guy who became famous for his show Bill Nye the Science Guy.
“Bill Nye is as much a scientist as I am,” Palin said at an anti-climate change event. “He’s a kids’ show actor, he’s not a scientist.”
She also went on to basically say that climate change is “predetermined” and those pushing the narrative of climate change are focused on “changes in the weather.” Apparently, Palin is so incredibly stupid that she doesn’t understand the difference between climate and weather. Then again, a lot of Republicans share this stupidity. You know, the folks who believe that a cold front or some snow disproves the reality that the planet is warming.
Though when Sarah Palin is brought in as part of a panel to discuss scientific information, that tells you pretty much all you need to know about how worthless this anti-climate change event is.
Now, to be fair, technically Bill Nye isn’t a “scientist” in the sense that he doesn’t have a degree in biology, physics or some other traditional “scientific” field. He does have a degree in mechanical engineering from Cornell University. He’s also been involved with quite a few scientific endeavors such as helping develop a sundial that was placed on the Mars Exploration mission and was vice president of the Planetary Society. To say nothing about his decades of working closely within many aspects of the scientific community.
But this is how incredibly idiotic many within this anti-climate change community are. This is a world where Sarah Palin, a bona fide buffoon, is seen as “credible” but the mechanical engineer who graduated from the Cornell University (an Ivy League school) with a lifetime that’s been dedicated to the scientific community, Bill Nye, is discredited as a kids’ show actor who shouldn’t be listened to.
Except that’s exactly what this “debate” is about. It’s the overwhelming majority of the world’s scientists vs. a bunch of sellouts to big oil and religious fanatics who believe God controls the weather. It’s Republicans who say things like, “Well, I’m not a scientist” – while casting doubt or trying to discredit the climate data from actual scientists. These “I’m not a scientist” people are quite literally saying that they’re not the very people (the scientists) who are telling them, unequivocally, that they are wrong when they claim climate change isn’t real.
It makes absolutely no sense.
To see Sarah Palin – yes, this woman – attempt to discredit Bill Nye, an extremely respected individual within the scientific community, is comically ridiculous. But it is exactly the type of attitude that’s at the very heart of the incredible ignorance and propaganda that drives these climate change-denying fools.
