Typically, the way Republicans respond to calls for sensible gun regulations is to react with such over-the-top “they’re coming to take all your guns” propaganda that you can’t even begin to have a reasonable debate about a very real problem. At that point, millions of Americans are so worked up and paranoid that it’s impossible to even try to have an adult conversation about this topic.
Then again, that’s why many Republicans push this outrageous fear-mongering — because they don’t want that adult conversation to happen.
Take for instance the most recent incoherent rant by Sarah Palin that was probably one of her craziest rants ever. That’s saying something considering the source.
I’ll break down the stupidity of this Facebook rant piece by piece.
“OBAMA IS A SPECIAL KIND OF STUPID.”
Yes, that’s how she started off this rant. Nothing like a supposed adult, and former governor of Alaska, who shows absolutely zero respect for the office of the President of the United States. Though I can’t help but laugh at Sarah Palin, of all people, calling a Columbia and Harvard Law graduate “stupid.” This from the woman who makes up words that don’t exist and can’t name newspapers when asked to cite some that she reads. Now that is a special kind of stupid.
“Enough is enough, Mr. President. There’s no “due respect” due you after pulling this stunt.”
“Exploiting a sick, evil, ideological-driven attack on Americans to further your twisted anti-Second Amendment mission is disgusting. Today you’re demanding an ‘explanation’ from law abiding gun owners, but not demanding the same from followers of Islam, the religion behind this terror?”
Fun fact: The assault weapons ban which people like President Obama support — was also supported by Ronald Reagan. So, if President Obama calling for an assault weapons ban makes him “anti-Second Amendment” and “disgusting,” then I guess Palin must feel the same about conservative icon Reagan.
Not only that, but Obama has never once asked for an “explanation” from gun owners, he’s simply called for common sense gun regulations that seek to remove military-style weapons from our streets and laws put in place to make sure people who shouldn’t have guns don’t get them. And if she believes that Islam should answer for the actions of the Orlando shooter, then does she feel that Republicans and Christians should answer for the Planned Parenthood shooter? After all, both mass shootings were carried out by fanatics citing religion as their justification.
But I shouldn’t try to use rational thoughts when dealing with a woman as batsh*t crazy as Palin.
“If the demented Orlando terrorist doesn’t represent all Islamic followers, then why do you insinuate he represents all gun owners?”
“And why, after any shooting, do you always want to take away firearms from the innocent people who didn’t do it?”
Again, President Obama never once said a single thing about the Orlando shooting representing all gun owners. In fact, he’s never said anything remotely close to that. Though I love how she twists what the president has been saying by claiming he’s going after “innocent people.” Just a little FYI, until he killed 49 people, the Orlando shooter was one of those “innocent people” of which Palin now speaks. Until Sunday morning, when people like Palin fiercely defended “law-abiding citizens” having the right to own guns, the madman who slaughtered 49 people in Orlando was part of that group she felt should have the right to own these weapons.
“Forget your asinine gun control, do your job and engage in Islamic terrorist control.”
Again, it’s amazing how she never once mentions the fact that the shooter was an American citizen who purchase these guns legally and, aside from basically “radicalizing himself” via the Internet, never really had any actual contact with terrorist groups, let alone ISIS. Also, I have to go back to the Colorado Springs Planned Parenthood shooter who was also “radicalized” by fanatical religious beliefs.
Her ridiculous statement seems to imply that President Obama only talks about gun regulations after an attack carried out by a Muslim. He’s brought up the need for sensible gun regulations after practically every tragic mass shooting, the overwhelming majority of which weren’t carried out by any form of “Islamic radical.” This is a clear case of Palin trying to paint the president as some sort of anti-American “Muslim sympathizer” who’s focused more on going after “law-abiding gun owners” than addressing terrorism. That makes sense — if you’re a mindless sheep who lacks the ability to think for themselves.
You know, your average Republican voter.
Sarah Palin has had plenty of embarrassing moments throughout her career, but this was one of the most ridiculous rants I’ve ever seen from her. Not because it was anymore incoherent than any of her others, but because it seems to have been based on some alternate reality where President Obama gave a speech that only she heard. Because literally nothing in this embarrassing word salad of idiotic nonsense made a damn bit of sense based on what President Obama has actually said about guns.
