Without a doubt, Donald Trump has been one of the most polarizing figures in American political history. This is someone who’s so controversial, even his own party is more or less publicly trying to do whatever it can to keep him from being its nominee. This all despite the fact that “stealing” it from him at the party’s convention in July could very well rip the party into two. It seems Republicans are willing to roll the dice with a potential all-out “civil war” within the party just to keep Trump from becoming the GOP presidential nominee.
Either way, no matter what we all might think of Trump, he wouldn’t be where he is right now without the millions of supporters who hang on his every word.
I’m sorry, but I have zero respect for anyone who’s dumb enough to think Donald Trump should be our next president. At first I tried to live with an “everyone has a right to their own opinion” approach to be respectful, but I’ve given up on that. You really do have to be a mindless buffoon to support Trump.
But don’t believe me, even Trump has basically admitted as much.
So when I saw last night’s Saturday Night Live skit mocking the absurdity of the typical Trump supporter, I couldn’t stop laughing. Like with most of these skits, I would encourage everyone to take a few minutes to check out the video below because nothing I say here will do it justice.
With SNL’s Kate McKinnon playing Kate Bolduan from CNN, she proceeded to “interview” a Trump supporter from the Tea Party News Network, Scottie Nell Hughes, played by Cecily Strong.
“Hi Kate,” Hughes said. “As a woman I like Donald Trump, but as a full-blown nutjob, I friggin’ love him!”
She then proceeded to make ridiculous excuses to defend Trump’s recent comments on abortion and sexist tweet of Heidi Cruz.
“Okay, so no, okay, so actually,” she said, “So that was an accident, okay? Because Donald’s hands are just so big he can’t see every little tweet his fingers retweet. I mean, you know his hands are this big [holding her hands about a foot apart]… flaccid.”
“That’s your actual answer?” Bolduan asked.
“That is what I have picked, yes,” Hughes answered.
Hughes also went on to say that she can’t be broken because “crazy don’t break.”
Let’s be honest, while not all Trump supporters are batcrap crazy – a lot of them are. If you’ve ever tried to press any of them to defend some of the outrageous things Trump has said or done, some of the answers you get aren’t all that different than the blatantly asinine things SNL writers came up with for this skit.
Though the sad truth is, you really don’t need to exaggerate a great deal to mock the absurdity of Donald Trump or those who support him. All you really need to do is quote them verbatim and that’s often comical enough.
