Well, it wasn’t exactly a lengthy response – but it was on point.
He led into the segment by mocking the “surprising twist” of an anti-government conservative saying something racist. Because, you know, that never happens. He then went on to call Bundy “a professor of Negro studies” and jabbed at Bundy’s comment where he said he’s a “little bit like the Founding Fathers” by saying, “The bit of you that’s like our Founding Fathers is the bit of them that we’re ashamed of.”
He also made sure to take one last jab at Sean Hannity and Fox News, mentioning once again that they were Bundy’s loudest cheerleaders before his racist comments made headlines.
It was at that moment that he decided to switch gears and tear apart CNN for their continued “breaking news” coverage of missing flight MH370. He pointed out that CNN had a “breaking news” story about a piece of debris that washed up on the west coast of Australia – only to have another “breaking news” story less than 24 seconds later saying that the debris was confirmed to not be from flight MH370.
Stewart then hammered the network for only devoting 2 minutes and 10 seconds to a recent UN report on climate change (you know, an actual news story), instead turning to their typical over-the-top horrific coverage of what they consider “news.”
Which is pretty sad actually. Not that long ago, many people viewed CNN as fairly decent for being “mainstream media,” but over the last few years they’ve become an absolute joke. Their coverage of flight MH370 has been so ridiculous that it almost seems like they’re actively trying to make absolute fools of themselves.
But as much as I love Jon Stewart, it’s still a sad day and age we live in where the best coverage of our news is found on Comedy Central.
