We’re all currently witnessing what happens when someone who has absolutely no business being elected to public office, let alone “president,” manages to con their way into the White House. I remember “the good ol’ days” when most of us thought George W. Bush’s administration was an incompetent, embarrassing mess.
When many people thought it couldn’t get any worse than Bush — it seems Republicans took that as a personal challenge.
One of the more underrated aspects showcasing how incompetent this current administration is can be found in the fact that what Trump says and does often doesn’t align with what members of his administration are saying and doing.
For example, comments U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley made during an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper where she laughably tried to champion Trump as someone who cares about the environment.
“We’ve got a president who is going to watch out for the environment,” Haley stated. “The rest of the world wanted to tell us how to do it and we’re saying we will do it but under our terms.”
“But, but — the standards were set by the United States for the United States,” Tapper said, openly breaking into laughter.
“No, the standards were set by President Obama,” Haley replied.
“My point is that you said the world is imposing standards on the United States,” Tapper stated. “President Obama, the president of the United States at the time, set the standards.”
I love the double standard.
When Trump wants to “set the standards,” to someone like Haley, his decisions represent the country. However, the twice-elected President Obama setting those standards was only him setting them — with 194 other nations.
Tapper then brought up Trump’s past comments about climate change all being one big Chinese hoax.
“But moving that aside for one second, I just want to be clear on this,” Tapper said. “You’re not willing to acknowledge that calling climate change a Chinese hoax is just a big box of crazy.”
“President Trump believes the climate is changing and he believes pollutants are part of that equation. That is the fact. That is where we are, that is where we stand,” Haley responded.
For anyone to claim Trump actually cares about the environment is ludicrous.
Donald Trump is someone who appointed a climate change denier to run the EPA, is pushing for massive cuts to funding for the EPA, wants to promote fossil fuels over green energy, wants to allow oil drilling on federal lands, and just pulled the United States out of a climate pact that practically every other nation on Earth agreed to.
Where’s one instance where Trump’s done anything positive to protect the environment?
This idea that he cares about the environment and protecting the planet is an absolute joke. Not only does he clearly not believe in the scientifically proven fact of climate change, but it really does seem like he’s going out of his way to undo any protections we’ve put in place to help save the planet.
The terrifying part of all of this is, by the time we finally get someone in the White House who truly cares about saving the only planet on which we have to live, the further damage done by Donald Trump’s ignorance could be extremely difficult to repair.
