While many people have been discussing the type of nightmare a “President Donald Trump” would bring, I have to be honest – I’d take eight years of Trump before I’d want to suffer through even one year under “President Ted Cruz.” Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want to see either one of them become president. However, as I’ve said before, while Trump as president would embarrass me, the thought of Cruz as our next Commander-in-Chief absolutely terrifies me.
When I watch Cruz speak, he reminds me of a twisted, deranged cult leader. It’s amazing how I see so many people describe him as “creepy.” That’s exactly the way I feel about him. While there are plenty of things I loathe about Ted Cruz, there’s something about him that gives me this sick feeling inside my stomach.
Well, one of the things I detest most about him is that he’s an absolute coward and a hypocrite. This is someone who’s built his entire career by trying to bring down others around him. Whether it’s bashing President Obama, liberals, the media, his own party or anyone who he feels he can attack to benefit his ambition – he’s going to do it.
Take for instance back in January when he tried to attack Trump by saying he couldn’t be trusted because he “embodies New York values.” While that’s not a racist or bigoted statement, it’s incredibly ignorant. Ted Cruz essentially said that the values of New York aren’t up to par with what he thinks American values should be. But not only was the statement ignorant, it was incredibly stupid. While New York is safely a blue state in the general election, it’s still a place with a large delegate haul that he really needs to win if he wants to stop Trump.
So, naturally, Cruz is now doing what he does best and cowardly trying to walk back his statement from January.
“Let’s be clear, the people of New York know what those values are,” Cruz said. “The values of liberal Democratic politicians like Andrew Cuomo, like Anthony Weiner, like Eliot Spitzer, like Charlie Rangel, all of whom Donald Trump has supported, given tens of thousands of dollars to throughout the years.”
Then during an interview with ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos, he tried using a similar talking point.
“Let me be very clear. The people that I was talking about are the liberal New York Democrats who have hammered this state. It is people like Mayor Bill de Blasio. It is people like Governor Cuomo,” Cruz said.
Like almost everything else Cruz says, that’s a flat-out lie.
When he said his comment about New York values a couple of months back, he was clearly trying to take a shot at the state for not having the same “values” (aka conservative, forcing the Bible into places it doesn’t belong) as places like Texas and other southern, “red” states. While it was most definitely an attack on Trump, it was also Cruz’s way of saying the New York native couldn’t possibly be a “real Republican” because he’s from an area of the country that simply doesn’t have “true conservative values.”
But now that he really needs to do well in New York, Cruz is desperately trying to shift around what he meant, hoping that it will help him on April 19th.
However, I highly doubt it’s going to work. While Cruz has enjoyed some wins here recently, the race now turns back toward the northeast where Trump is favored to win in places like New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. So, while Cruz’s desperate attempt to salvage any slim chance he might have had in New York is understandable, I highly doubt it’s going to do him any good.
