Senator Ted Cruz has become so ridiculous that it’s hard for me to view him as anything but a caricature of what tea party conservatives think politicians are supposed to act like. Because I really just can’t take anything he says seriously.
Take for instance his comments attacking President Obama because the FAA issued a temporary ban on flights to Israel. Cruz said of the ban,”The facts suggest that President Obama has just used a federal regulatory agency to launch an economic boycott on Israel, in order to try to force our ally to comply with his foreign-policy demands.”
“The facts suggest.” What facts exactly?
The reason the FAA issued a temporary ban on flights to Israel is because a Hamas-fired rocket landed about a mile from the airport.
“This FAA flight ban may well represent a crippling blow to a key economic sector through both security concerns and worries that additional bans will down more flights and strand more passengers,” Cruz continued. “It hardly matters if or when the ban is lifted. At this point, the damage may already be done.”
Basically what Cruz is accusing the Obama administration of is purposely trying to sabotage the Israel economy in an attempt to get them to “give in” to his policies.
You would really have to be a paranoid, delusional fool to believe something as outrageous as that.
Because I can promise you this, if a plane full of American passengers happened to get shot down by a Hamas-fired rocket, Cruz would have been one of the first people blaming the tragedy on President Obama. In fact, I bet the first thing he would have asked is why didn’t we issue a ban on American flights if the administration knew of Hamas-fired rockets landing near the airport.
Then considering we just saw a plane get shot down (though under completely different circumstances) in Ukraine, wouldn’t it make a little sense for the FAA to be a little more cautious?
And let’s not act like this is a permanent ban on air travel. It’s a temporary ban placed on air travel following a rocket landing close to the airport.
This is just Cruz’s pathetic attempt to paint President Obama as anti-Israel and pro-Hamas. And sadly, millions of conservatives will actually believe his absurd comments.
But like I said, if a plane were to be shot down by a Hamas rocket, then we learned that a rocket had landed a mile from the airport just a few days before, Cruz would be one of the first people pinning that tragedy on the president.
Because when it comes to conservatives like Ted Cruz, no matter what Obama’s decision is or isn’t, they’re going to simply say he should have done the opposite.
