Texas Senator Ted Cruz Seeks Federal Aid for Explosion After Voting Against Sandy Relief

tedcruzAnd the hypocrisy just keeps on coming….

Yesterday, I wrote about Governor Rick Perry and Texas House Representative Bill Flores seeking funds from President Obama for disaster relief after the explosion in West, Texas.

Normally this wouldn’t have been that big of a deal, except historically Perry has been extremely vocal against government spending (though he sure does enjoy taking it) and Mr. Flores himself voted against disaster relief following Hurricane Sandy.

Now it’s time for Texas Senator Ted Cruz to join the hypocrisy.  Today Ted Cruz asked President Obama for disaster assistance as well.

Which again wouldn’t be that big of a deal, except he also voted against the Hurricane Sandy disaster relief package.

In his short time in Congress Ted Cruz has shown to be, well—ridiculous.  Recently, Chuck Schumer laughed at Cruz on the Senate floor during his presentation against expanding background checks for gun purchases.  Despite not being able to provide any evidence for his lie that expanded background checks will lead to a national gun registry, he continued to push his conspiracy as Schumer pressed him to provide some kind of evidence—which he never did.

It’s not at all shocking that Ted Cruz is turning out to be this kind of U.S Senator.  At CPAC he said that he felt a large part of him winning election to the U.S Senate was because of the endorsement from—-Sarah Palin.

When you idolize Sarah Palin, someone who isn’t even liked by many Republicans, that says enough about what type of politician you will ultimately be.

For those who would like to tell Senator Cruz what you think about his hypocrisy, I encourage you to head here and give him a piece of your mind.

And if you don’t have time to contact the Senator now, don’t worry—I’m positive this won’t be my last article covering his blatant ignorance and hypocrisy.

Cruz is just another in a long line of Republican hypocrites……this is not a natural disaster and should not be given a single penny.

    • Landran

It may not be a natural disaster, but it is a disaster. Perhaps helping will show them that some are willing to do something for others whereas others will do everything to not do anything. Perhaps they will learn (that notion is laughable) that they are wrong.

      • Let the owners of said plant, pay for disaster relief.

      • Otherwise they can agree to dismantling Bush tax cuts, nationalizing health care and total student loan forgiveness in return.

      • suburbancuurmudgeon

        No, they won’t learn anything.

      • Then the aid can go to the local folks who lost their homes and jobs due to the explosion, and to the families of those who were killed in the explosion (though I imagine those families will be filing lawsuits against the company). The feds should NOT be providing any money to the company itself … especially when the feds didn’t even do their job (from what I hear) about inspecting the plant regularly.

The answer is NO MONEY. If Texans were stupid enough to put a hypocritical repugnicant in charge of their state, then they should pay the consequences. In the meantime, let us call it texASS.

    • Kiko

The people shouldn’t be punished for this man’s ignorance, especially those that didn’t vote for him! Let’s just hope that in the future he takes more of a moderate stance, with his people’s welfare in mind, or gets his ass bunted if he doesn’t

      • The people are who voted for this ass hat thar punishes the rest of us with his votes in the senate. I say until TX can join the union in logical thought they can clean up their own mess.

  • Homewrecker

    Sen. Carnival Cruz

    • minidriver

Drifting without guidance or an engine, and full of sewage. Very apt.

  • He voted against helping the people of a natural disaster but
    he has the nerve
to ask for aid for a disaster caused by a major company. Why
should the tax payer aid West? I would think that the responsible party would
be the fertilizer company. Go ask them to pay for their mess.

This is nothing new with right wing conservatives. Two days ago I received Sen. Roger Wicker’s email chastising the Obama administration for allowing the closing of 5 Mississippi air control towers. What happened to, “We can’t go on spending money like this?” This only applies to what conservatives view as entitlement programs. What that means is programs that supports democratic voters. This particular entitlement program benefits high income republicans. Incidentally, these closing are part of the sequestration that is sponsored by republicans.

    • minidriver

What’s even worse is Cruz is probably asking for the money so the fertilizer company can rebuild its plant. I would strongly doubt Cruz has the people of West in mind when he asked for that.

  • I find it interesting,, that after knowing exactly how the Americans, especially Texans/Arizona despise Latinos…yet..Rubio and Cruz show their two faces with the Republic Party..Every time I listen to them, I feel disappointed!

    • suburbancuurmudgeon

I just laugh my butt off. They are tokens.

  • I’m a Texan, and im ashamed of this guy…I didnt vote for him nor did many other “Real Texans”, Dont blame all of us for the stupidity of one..

  • REALLY? Really? Let me get this right. Smaller government is your guys’ mantra, correct? Is that limited to when you need them? How bout privitizing and not feeling so ‘entitled’ and stand on your own feet. Use your tax breaks to pay for your mistakes. Gee we must do something about these “entitlements’. Imagine the nerve to ask our government for money!

    • suburbancuurmudgeon

      You just made me smile.

  • terry

This continuously happens with republicans, but people keep voting them in so we have to put up with the hypocritical rantings. What we have to do as Voters in do our job and Vote; not just every four years. I voted midterms but a lot of us stayed home, and that is when the crazies took control. We have to vote at least every two years to keep down the amount of crazies we allow to dictate to the Majority, just because the Majority decided to take the midterms off, while the crazy radical right showed up. We can’t allow this to happen again. If the Majority votes, we can get this country back on track. Of all the difficult things we have to do each day, Voting is the easiest. That has to be our job, because we DO outnumber them by a lot; see you at the polls!

Two thirds of this spending is not remotely “emergency”; the Congressional Budget Office estimates that only 30% of the authorized funds would be spent in the next 20 months, and over a billion dollars will be spent as late as 2021. – Ted Cruz statement on Sandy Relief Bill

  • suburbancuurmudgeon

Can’t we just let Texas secede and pay its own bills?

  • Edie Cleveland I am going to be a better person than either of them and say that we ought to help even though #1, it was not a natural disaster and #2, many of the people there probably felt the same and did not want to help us in NJ. Two wrongs don’t make a right; do unto others as you’d like them to do, NOT as they did; turn the other cheek; yada, yada, yada. Maybe one or two of those self righteous, bigoted, misguided, conservative, so-called Christians will learn a lesson. And there are probably some very nice folks in West, TX who really deserve to be helped.
Just for giggles, I sent him this comment. Wonder if he’ll respond???

  • Gigi

would it be unchristian to make him wait as long as he made NJ wait?

  • That takes guts!

  • Cliff

He’s going to get away with it politically.

  • Ursula2007

Well, but…but…if the other people are taking government handouts, we all need to get our fair share, too, right?? Don’t want all the money going to those darn East Coast Libs, am I right??

  • I wrote my sociopathic Senator yesterday…both of them..I also wrote my Tea-Nut Govenor Prick Perry…I pointed out their hypocrasy.I pointed out that the explosion that leveled the town was brought on by right-wing Corporate Fascist Greed..Allowing Company’s to self-regulate….stupid insanity to promote bloated wealth…If Conservatism doesn’t make us all serfs or in my case “stone” me for being gay…or raping women..oppressing over 50% of the population…it will kill us all….We need to deep six this entire ideology

  • openlyblack

Yo Ted … kiss my “big gummit” supporting ass you narcissistic, bloviating, McCarthyistic liar. You don’t want regulation? Well, that deregulated Texas company just blew a Texas town off the map … fix it your damn self!

  • Linda Smith

Get the people help so they can rebuild, bury family and friends. Then force the company to reimburse the gov’t for the aid, and then get sued to the hilt.
