Texas Republican Says Ranchers Should be Able to Shoot ‘Wetbacks,’ Calls Obama a ‘Socialist Son of a B*tch’

chris-mappAnd the party of “we’re not racists” strikes again with another far-right leaning radical proudly displaying the true nature of many conservative voters.  It’s like many liberals have said, “Not all conservatives are racists, but most racists are conservatives.”

Well, a Texas Republican candidate for United States Senate, Chris Mapp, seems determined to prove just how ignorant conservative ideology can be.

Mapp said that ranchers should be allowed to shoot “wetbacks” if they’re caught on their land.  Then when he was confronted about the obvious racial overtones of that word, Mapp actually defended his usage of it by saying that using the term “wetback” to describe illegal immigrants is as “normal as breathing air in South Texas.”

And you know what, he’s right.

I’m from San Antonio.  I spent a good amount of time down in South Texas.  The term “wetback” is commonly used.  Heck, I’ve seen people of Mexican heritage use it.

Now for him to say that using this slur is as “normal as breathing air” is complete nonsense.  It’s a slur, like any other slur, that’s often said in small groups of people who have trust with one another.

But what he doesn’t realize is that, commonly used or not, it’s still an ignorant slur.

The infamous “N-word” was once (and still is) a commonly used derogatory slur for African-Americans.  Just because certain groups of people commonly use a derogatory word, doesn’t make its usage justified.  His defense of this word perfectly showcases just how ignorant Mr. Mapp really is.

Then there’s his belief that ranchers should be allowed to shoot “wetbacks” they see on their land.

Nothing quite like a Republican candidate for the United States Senate advocating murder.

How exactly would one identify a “wetback” anyway?  Would he support the murder of all people who “looked” like one?  Are ranchers supposed to identify the “wetback” as an illegal, then shoot them?

And let’s not forget that many of these people are coming here with their families – often including small children.  Is he advocating for the murder of small children?  Or is he just saying it’s okay to murder the children’s families in front of them, but the kids are off limits?

Honestly, it’s not even worth trying to rationalize – because the guy’s obviously a complete moron.

Then, just to solidify the fact that he’s a true Republican buffoon, he called President Obama a “socialist son of a bitch.”  Proving that he clearly doesn’t know what a socialist is.

But that’s not really anything new.  Republicans call Obama a socialist all the time, proving that they have absolutely no idea what socialism is.

Mapp’s comments highlight exactly the kind of mindset many conservatives that comprise the “base” of the Republican party have.  I see it all the time.  Sure, when comments like these are said publicly there’s a “shock” factor to them.  But considering I hear stuff like this from conservative voters quite often, it doesn’t really shock me at all.

Because while I find his comments absolutely disgusting, they’re nothing that I haven’t already heard from conservative voters many times before.

Chris Mapp is wrong on at least three counts. The use of violence should never be substituted for equally effective non-violent measures. His suggestion is outside the rule of law. He is aiming at the wrong target. A better non-violent and legal solution would be to instead elect government officials who observe existing immigration laws and their constitutional responsibility to secure our borders from invasions and also to heavily fine and incarcerate cheating employers who profit by laying off US workers and hiring cheaper third world employees. Once enough Marriot and Tyson executives are safely secured in federal penitentiaries and politicians who actually represent US labor are elected, ranchers won’t be dealing with so many refuse discarding illegal aliens and armed drug dealers crossing their properties.

      pretty good stuff from strayaway!!!

I guess the ignorance is what gets them elected..

      And Ted Nugent…

  • Richard Verdejo

Does Mapp realize that when the indiscriminate shooting of “wetbacks” merely for being on a rancher’s lands starts, they THERE WILL BE REPRISALS?
And as a wannabe Legislator, does he also realize that MERE PRESENCE does not constitute a threat to be addressed with LETHAL FORCE – thereby nullifying his stupid circumferential support of:
    1. Stand Your Ground/Castle Laws IN ABSENCE OF THREATS
    2. Discriminatory violence absent probable cause against ethnic group/s
Also shows his LACK of intelligence by parroting the other idiots that have NO CLUE as to what SOCIALISM is…but have been bamboozled by OLD COLD WARRIORS (most of whom NEVER donned the uniforms or directly faced the threats)

Can’t belive I spent 22 yrs of my ‘defending’ these sorts of societal scabs.

    • Juan

      Very well say…

    • JSebastian

Shoot on sight policies are part of many protected facilities and also some countries borders. Not really beyond the purview of the Federal Govt. If they can put up these areas at military bases they can surely establish them along the southern border too.

  • Angel Ramos

wow!! shoot wetbacks huh?? my mom is white but my dad was a so called “wetback”. so even though i was born here. i have one thing to say to this racist jerk. bring it on you punk. this wetback shoots back!!

  • Matthew Reece

Fun fact: the term “wetback” is also used in Spanish (espalda mojada) by legal immigrants against illegal immigrants. Take from that what you will.

    • Yolanda Acosta

Sorry but no that’s not true. Mojados is the word used by some ignorant Spanish speaking people!

    • Jan Civil

What do you want us to take from that? It does nothing for me. It isn’t surprising, and it was actually mentioned in the article.
This comes across as sneaky, but who do you think you’re persuading? If you want to defend these remarks, get ahold of your balls and do that.

The Obama way? Are you insinuating that the POTUS is telling people to expose mentally ill racists so that a race war ensues? You, sir, are mentally ill.

      • Pipercat

Gotta love the commercials being broadcast. I love how they are all going to “secure the border” and fight Obama. What buffoons…

  • J Michael Soliz

How do you call the president a “socialist son of a bitch”? You are running for office, that doesn’t seem like a wise thing to do….very disrespectful. repubs are all about the hate these days…he doesn’t come off as someone who should be making laws and representing the common man.

    • suburbancuurmudgeon

Obama is one lousy socialist. If he were, we’d have a single payor system, half of the Wall Street parasites in jail, mortgage debt wiped out and Bush/Cheney tried for war crimes.

      • deckbose

And corporate American wouldn’t be enjoying higher profits than ever before in its history, while middle and lower class workers continue to struggle with paltry paychecks. Idiots like this guy Mapp, who clearly has no clue what socialism is, should be disqualified from even running for office, much less having a chance of winning.

      • Bernard Terway

The idiot is from Texass where there are enough idiots to either vote for him, or to stay at home and bitch about his getting elected. Rational people here in this state need to get out and VOTE!

      • Michael Hays

Should be disqualified from running for office? Now that doesn’t seem very progressive.

      • deckbose

If you’re going to be in a position to influence society by enacting laws, I see no problem with a basic intelligence test. Would you want a person who cannot read or write representing you? Probably not, I would guess, so there is some level of qualification every one agrees is necessary. A basic intelligence test would simply take that same idea one step further. It wouldn’t require agreement with any political agenda, but it would require a working knowledge of government and history. Otherwise, we could all end up with a legislature that’s unable to do its job.

      • Michael Hays

Well see, that argument is already fallacious in this context because you’re comparing the inability to read and write to hyper-conservatism. That’s improper in both a sense of scope (measures of ineptitude) and in terms of motive (assuming people would run on the platform of illiteracy, and even more incorrectly, that people would vote for them).

      • deckbose

No, actually I compared the inability to read or write to a shockingly misinformed notion of what socialism is. As was already pointed out in this thread in stark detail, Barack Obama is far from a socialist. Indeed, on a political spectrum, he’s more of a moderate Republican. Having fools like Chris Mapp insist he is a socialist simply proves that they do not have the political understanding or intellectual wherewithal to hold elective office. When you get a group of people so stunningly misinformed about the basics of political science, who substitute malice for insight, you can rest assured that nothing productive will follow.

      • Michael Hays

“you can rest assured that nothing productive will follow.” That’s opinion. An opinion which I mostly agree with, but opinion nonetheless. It’s irresponsible to broadcast it as fact.

      • deckbose

A comment in a reader section that does not reference established law or link to someone else’s writing is, by definition, “opinion.” Indeed, there’s not a comment anywhere in this entire section that could not be met with the retort, “Well, that’s your opinion.” (Except maybe the comment that’s entirely in Spanish, because I don’t know what it says.) Thus, I haven’t the faintest clue where you get the idea I “broadcast it as fact.” But I think it’s safe to say (notice I said “I think”) that we have now vetted this idea to the fullest possible extent. Thank you for your help in clarifying my thoughts.

      • Michael Hays

“Indeed, there’s not a comment anywhere in this entire section that could not be met with the retort, “Well, that’s your opinion.”” You are absolutely right with that. Heck, I’d say the same thing to every comment here if I had the time and patience. Point is, you are using that assumption to prove your point that certain people “should be disqualified from even running for office”, an opinion I wholly disagree with. It goes against countless liberties for which people have died defending. It’s liberals like you that fight for freedom of speech among other things, until of course it goes against what you believe, at which point it should be banned. Hypocrisy at its finest.

I really don’t mean to offend too much (maybe just a little). I just want you to consider the idea that people should be allowed to say and promote whatever they want, and it’s your job to respond with kindness and reason to drive out the hatred and illogical thoughts of others, rather than responding with the like. Trust me, the world is slowly beginning to agree with you. Bigotry is ending; please don’t replace it with more hatred.

      • deckbose

Thanks for going full circle in this conversation, and apparently ignoring everything that I’ve already written in response to these exact points. Would you call redundancy a conservative trait or just your own personal one? I mean, since you’re so keen to attach political affiliations to your tired observations? Don’t you have anything better to do than repeat the same questions to me?

      • Michael Hays

Easy now. You don’t need to take constructive criticism on your personality so personally. I’m just trying to help you evolve.

      • deckbose

When you figure out how to write a cogent response that doesn’t require deciphering (as did the last couple of posts, e.g., I’m using an “assumption” that people write opinions to “prove [my] point” that people have opinions — wtf?), that’s when you can take on the job of helping me evolve. You attempt a nifty sleight of hand in that last comment to transform what I had already established to be a malicious misnomer, one you did not dispute, into a difference of opinion, making it seem as though I am intolerant of other people’s right to speak. It was at that point, when you started substituting sophistry for honesty, that I lost interest.

      • Michael Hays

Got it. I’ll head back as soon as I do! =)

      • Michael Hays

Alright, I think I’m ready! I believe that your inability to “decipher” the logic in my comments is a result of your own ineptitude rather than any incoherent babbling on my end. How’s that for cogent? =)

    • Eric

Whatever he’s running for he won’t win, not as long as the internet exists, and we can track fools like him down and make sure the whole world knows what he said and what he thinks.

      • ronchristman

Sorry Eric, he will probably win because his constituents think just like him.

  • Marilyn Olsen Scheffler

Isn’t he a member of the party that believes that life is precious no matter what the situation?? How does that jive with what he is advocating? Guess it’s all about who is talking about it, right? If a democrat made that statement he/she would be vilified for wanting to kill a human being and would be judged as going along with the “baby killers” group.

    • Kim Serrahn

No, that party only really cares before the baby is born not after.

  • True White Republican

They should be allowed to shoot shitskin africoons too.

I’ll be the first one to admit there’s a humongous problem here with illegal immigration but shooting ANYONE on sight is SURRRRE not the answer, nor is using racially charged ‘rhetoric’. I call these folks ‘relics’ because their beliefs are life fossils. I agree it is a problem, but I have NO clue how to fix it. While I normally agree with the Dems on most things, I don’t think they’re serious … or firm enough on the problem… But shooting them & calling them stupid names like this is RIDICULOUS.

    • moe/larry & curly keys

then the teeny weenie ‘allen Clifton” and his ilk might actually eat some protein

    • Julie Wickstrom

Poor homicidal redneck! When you have to run off to Mexico for murder, the joke is on you.

  • Carlito

People of Mexican heritage? Once again, to an American, brown = Mexican.

  • shane98

These radical, gun toting, racist, conservatives kill me. They want to require that all voters present photo IDs because voting is a sacred right guaranteed by the US Constitution. At the same time, they don’t want to require a photo ID at gun shows or in private sales transactions because gun ownership is a sacred right guaranteed by the US Constitution.

    • Gary Menten

I agree with you the point you said “conservatives.” George Will is a conservative. I don’t agree with him on most issues, but last I heard, I he wasn’t advocating murder. Mapp, and many Republicans like him, are simply kooks, not conservatives.

      • Gregory Hinton

no they’re conservatives too. to say different is stupidity.

      • Gary Menten

No, they are crazy, which goes well beyond conservatism. Thanks for your two cents worth.

      • Fairy Larry

The nuts are registered republicans, the politicians serve as registered republicans, they vote like republicans. They are conservatives. OWN IT

      • MMikeJBenN

What he means is that they are extremists, not just right wingers.

      • Ian McTavish

not an american, but it seems to me that reliance upon the mentality that formed your country, violence and subjugation of the first nations people there, is a form of conservatism. reliance upon the ignorance of the past to establish policy today is conservatism and it simple will never work. that is why you had those war criminals: bush and cheney. oh yes, and we up here are quite pissed at karl rove who taught too many of conservative legislators the tricks used those war criminals so that the cons up here can rule the roost by lying and spinning to their hearts content. our country is much poorer for it!!!

    • Eric

There’s your compromise–if these gun nuts shouldn’t have IDs/register, then neither should undocumented workers.

  • Gary Menten

It’s time to admit that the GOP stopped being the party of Lincoln a long time ago and has slowly, but surely been turning into the party of Hitler.

    • Michael Hill

The GOP was never the “Party of Lincoln”. The “Party of Lincoln” were liberals and the Democrats were ultra conservatives.

      • MMikeJBenN

That is a point I keep spreading; in Lincoln’s time, the Republicans were the liberals and the Democrats were the conservatives. Today’s republikkkans think there is nothing wrong with allowing the 1% to practice slavery.

  • Enrique Jaramillo

Although my mother’s family was born here my father’s was bit which puts him as a “wetback” Coming from a border city, El Paso, does this give the farmers to shoot people of my heritage but not a “redneck”? If you shoot another person it’s murder and if this man wants it his way, he and the Republican party should be charged for murder for every stupid idiot that decides to shoot “wetback”

  • Gary Menten

Apparently Mr.Mapp, you did not get the word about “Time to stop being the party of stupid.”

    • Rhonda Thissen

Seems like none of the rest of them did either.

  • moe/larry & curly keys

  • republic84

I wonder if Texans know how the rest of the country views them? I’m certain there are decent people down there…somewhere. My suggestion to congress would be: if you want to improve your approval rating, the next time Texans want to secede, LET THEM.

  • Who me?

Margarette Ann Gordan Chris Mapp is the most incompetent and uninformed person ever to run for office!
    Mapp
sorely lacks critical thinking skills. For days he insisted that
marijuana was more dangerous than alcohol simply because he’d heard it
somewhere. He was too lazy (stupid?) to do any research himself and
swore, multiple times, he would never support legalization.
    A
simple Google search would have shown him the facts but he is so
willfully ignorant and alarmingly stupid that he never bothered to check
his facts …until people served them up on a silver platter. He then
did a complete about face and agreed to support legalization. While I
give him credit for changing his stance in light of facts. the problem
is he doesn’t know what he doesn’t know and he fights like a schoolyard
bully to defend things he knows nothing about.
He has declared he wants to cut entitlement programs by 50% when 1 in 4 children in the US are going hungry!
    He
has declared that anyone should have the right to bear any type of
weapons with absolutely no registration or regulations?? A nuke in every
    home?
    He
has declared that homosexual marriage, marriage being a legal contract
authorized exclusively by the state, recognized by the state granting rights and responsibilities, is not a
civil rights issue. He is so stupid he boils homosexuality down to
    nothing but a sex act.
He told an African American poster on his Facebook page that he doesn’t speak or understand “Boo-Bonics”.
    He
is selfish, ignorant, hateful, racist, bigoted, homophobic, volatile,
short tempered, rude and vicious. When he doesn’t get his way he curses
    and is incredibly nasty!

If you don’t believe me, check out his Facebook page Chris Mapp for US Senate It is a case-study in political suicide.

Texas would be better off with a mob of drunk children in the Senate than this sorry excuse for a Texan!
Chris Mapp is an embarrassment to his state and his country.

If he really believes what he says, even if elected, he would have to violate his own ethics when taking the oath of office requiring him to obey and uphold the constitution.

  • ltc444

It was inappropriate for him to use the term if in fact he used it. Having spent a considerable amount of time on the border in Arizona and California, I fully understand the frustration of the residents who live in fear from the illegal activities which are a daily occurrence. Sorry nightly occurrence.

I remember a night in Calixco I was working at a location next to the border when we received automatic weapons fire from the Mexican side of the border. This happened to me once. I cannot imagine my family living with armed coyotes routinely crossing my property, passing through my yard, and destroying my crops and livestock without taking some action.

Al Gores network admitted the violence and actually reported on it before they sold out to Ajezera.

My response to this poor example of humanity is support his opponent. And if no worthy opponent is found. Run for Senate yourself if you are able.

  • Marilyn Olsen Scheffler

The more they open their mouths the more I love it! I hope every one of these idiots fails at their attempt to get elected to any office they might be running for. He is a fool!!

  • Marilyn Olsen Scheffler

I suppose he calls himself a Christian too huh??

  • Eg Kbbs

Let’s say that you could shoot illegal immigrants on sight. How many Mapp supporters have the legal skills necessary to determine, on the spot, if the person they see is an illegal immigrant, legal immigrant, or full USA citizen with dark skin ? For that matter, how many would even try before shooting the person ? How many have the police skills to hold the person in custody while they are determining their immigration status ?

    • Eg Kbbs

And if this applies to immigrants, then wouldn’t it apply equally to Norwegians as to Mexicans ? The same way he probably thinks he can tell an illegal immigrant just by looking at them I see a lot of folks walking down the street that I’m guessing are probably Europeans, Chinese, etc.

  • deckbose

So this fool Chris Mapp insists that the term “wetback” is as “normal as breathing air in South Texas.” Does that include the shooting them part? Is that also a common attitude in South Texas?

  • Ann

Amazing! First of all how not Christian is that. Second of all how can you say someone is a “wetback” of not? It could be someone just crossing their land. Thirdly that would be out and out murder since there was no threat of harm or violence by someone cutting across their land. Fourth-I was we should be able to shoot stupid politicians!

  • Steafan Dubhuidhe

I think anyone should be allowed to shoot racists.

  • eyeonu1

that’s why the dem’s take both house’s and your next president of the U.S. MRS. HILLARY CLINTON will be able to get things done.

  • Secure the Border

That is why some of these ranchers should cede some of their land to the US Government to patrol the border. It is these ranchers but not all of them that oppose Putting a wall and border patrol guards. Fox News wants to blame the Democrats for everything wrong at the border. The ranchers could make good money by allowing the part of their land next to the border to be sold to the Federal Government for the purpose of securing the border. Oh yes the source is very real and they do really own their land.

  • John Hickman

    TeaParty, GO HOME

  • Dave-A

The most sorry and troubling aspect of this story and the individual, is how it illustrates the absolute ineptitude and utter lack of what it takes to serve the people in our government. Especially the esteemed Senate. This is the new ‘normal’ for republicans. Find someone who has no intellect, no respect, no desire to build the country, but is aggressive and combative. HE will then make the perfect tool for dismantling that which they [the right wing] all most despise. At least have been conditioned to.

  • udicks

Why is there an add to sign a petition to bypass Roe v, Wade on this page

  • alex

My father is Cuban. Am I half wetback too? Or just the mexicans?

  • connlyfox

Oh my heaven sakes alive, these people really think they can talk like that and run for government? I was aware Texas was a little backwards but not this bad, the state has problems with its olders persons not able to give up on some of the attitudes from yester years. This si a bit much!

  • Julie Wickstrom

First, he is advocating homicide. Second, public speaking should show professionalism and class. By using those racist slurs he proves he has neither.

  • Mary Moon

The more I hear the GOP say and the more I see what that party does, I am glad I decided to become non-affiliated with any party, but the GOP big time. These people are supposed to be educated but the educated people I know realize that the “wetbacks” in this country are all of us, those of us whose ancestors came from a different country, and the only real Americans are the native American Indians. I’d love to see what Chris Mapp would have to say if the native peoples decided to say that they, not the Texas ranchers, have to right to shoot “wetbacks” on sight no questions asked. I’m sure he would change his story in a big fat hurry.

  • blklammer

I wish he would come visit so I could practice my “stand your ground’ Law.

  • I would like to take him on a little trip to Juarez. Course he might not come back, but no loss there.

When I hear these people, I am reminded me Germany in the 1930s when Hitler declared himself and the Nazi party to be devout Christians.

  • Morten Frederiksen

when comments like these are said publicly there’s a “shock” factor to them – No there’s not! That misses the point entirely! The point is that when a lie like this is repeated often enough in public, it turns into basic fact in the public eye. It’s a spin strategy formulated by the Nazis of Germany back in the late twenties or early thirties, and it works fine to this day…

There will come a day when Republicans will ask, what did we do so wrong to lose so many elections?

  • sftommy

Mexican drug cartels would make short work of him.

  • Sandy Lorvig Mathews

I find it a little odd that there is more objection to the use of a racial slur than to the fact that he wants to shoot them. Am I missing something?

If it wasn’t for socialist policies… The whole lot of southern states, minus Texas, would be part of the third world. Do conservatives think at all?

  • truffle19

What he says is BS. I grew up in Texas. Yes, people used that word a lot. And, yes, everyone knew it was meant as a racial insult. How dumb does he think people are? Oh, wait….

  • JSebastian

You should always be able to use deadly force to deter trespassers, as to whether they are wetbacks, well that’s just his assumption that anyone who is crossing the land next to the border must not be lawfully coming in, since its not at a lawful point of entry to the US, but rather the rancher’s private land. That is all he means by it.

If there are not harsh consequences for breaking/entering our country illegally they will just keep doing it. A shoot on sight policy such as the military uses to protect military bases, or many nations use to control their borders would surely be completely unbiased – anyone coming through that no access area would be subject to it, and it would have nothing to do with their race, but rather the fact they are committing a crime and violating the border and no access area. In Israel this area is about 15 yards wide and consists of a posted no access area between two high fences. Anyone found there is subject to deadly force.
