Let me tell you, being a liberal living in Texas is not always easy, although I’m sure that goes for most liberals living in predominantly “red states.” But it seems that Texas is quickly becoming a breeding ground for some of the more
batshit crazy eccentric right-wing conservatives.
Well, it seems Midland County Sheriff Gary Painter is trying to continue the tradition of making Texas look ridiculous by claiming that they’re finding “Muslim clothing” and “Quran books” along trails and roads in the state. He also claims to have “intelligence” confirming ISIS cells in Juarez, Mexico.
You know, because a small West Texas county sheriff definitely has access to fairly high-level international intelligence data concerning the known whereabouts of cells linked to what’s currently the most dangerous terrorist group in the world.
“I received an intelligence report that said that there were ISIS cells that were active in Juarez and that there was some activity for the sheriffs along the border to be on alert,” Painter told Elisabeth Hasselbeck on Fox & Friends.
“I’m saying the border is wide open. We have found copies, or people along the border, have found Muslim clothing, they have found Quran books that are laying on the side of the trail. So we know that there are Muslims that have come across, have been smuggled in the United States,” he continued.
Though it seems this rampant Muslim paraphernalia being found in Texas has been overlooked by – everyone. Because I’m sure if this were true, the mainstream media would be completely ignoring it, right? I’m sure Fox News would absolutely avoid sending crews to the areas where materials linked to Islam were being found along Texas roads and trails, especially if they were by the border.
But he wasn’t done.
“If they show their ugly head in our area, we’ll send them to hell,” Painter continued to rant on. “I think the United States needs to get busy and they need to bomb them. They need to take them out. I would like for them to hit them so hard and so often that every time they hear a propeller on a plane or a jet aircraft engine that they urinate down both legs.”
That’s that good ol’ tough “Texas talk.” And by that I mean, it’s meant to sound tough but really just comes off idiotic and ignorant.
While it’s not at all shocking that Fox News would give airtime to this guy, it does continue to prove just how low they’ll stop to find anyone that will help them fuel their right-wing propaganda machine; especially when it combines baseless fear mongering about terrorism and the border.
