Thanks to Liberals, Anti-Obamacare Conservative Now Realizes ‘Pigheaded’ Republicans are the Problem

luis-lang-gofundmeIn the world of politics and political debates there are very few “victories.” Basically a discussion between two opposing political factions (typically Democrat and Republican) yields what amounts to a pointless back and forth where neither side convinces the other of anything.

However, there are those rare moments where someone’s mind is actually changed.

That’s exactly what happened when an outpouring of liberal generosity (coupled with some often very brutal comments) made the now former Republican Luis Lang realize it’s the GOP that’s the problem.

In case you haven’t heard the story, Lang is self-employed, lives in South Carolina, has diabetes and didn’t have health insurance. Recently he was told by doctors that his diabetes was going to cause him to go blind if he didn’t have a medical procedure to correct the bleeding in his eyes. That’s when he quickly realized that he desperately needed health insurance because he couldn’t personally afford the expensive medical procedure. Unfortunately for him, the enrollment period for the Affordable Care Act had already ended and he wasn’t able to sign up for the insurance that he needed.

Naturally, being a Republican, he blamed all of this on “Obamacare” and President Obama.

Well, after several liberal bloggers (including myself) wrote about this story, money began to pour in on his GoFundMe page (mostly from liberals based on the comments section). As of writing this, he’s raised over $23,000 of his $30,000 goal.

At the time, many people (including myself) chastised the ignorance of Lang. After all, he was a perfect example of Republican ignorance about our flawed health care system and the ACA in general. Someone who blamed the president for his health woes, while still supporting the people in our government (Republicans) who were really the ones preventing this country from having universal health care so that situations like the one Lang found himself in never happen to anyone.

Well, it seems Mr. Lang has seen the error of his ways and has denounced the “pigheaded” Republican party.

“Now that I’m looking at what each party represents, my wife and I are both saying, ‘Hey, we’re not Republicans!’” Luis Lang said.

“I do mainly blame Republicans for their pigheadedness,” he continued. “They’re blocking policies that could help everyone. I’m in the situation I’m in because they chose not to expand Medicaid for political reasons. And I know I’m not the only one.”

He also said he wants to rip up his voter registration on television to show people he’s done being a Republican and pledges to be one of the first people singing up for “Obamacare” next year.

I know some will still be cynical, and that’s fine. But in my mind stories like this are a big part of the reason I spend just about every day doing this – to try to make a difference. And in this instance, not only did liberal generosity help possibly save someone’s eyesight, but it also made a lifelong conservative realize that Republicans are the problem.

Though he still needs help and he sure as hell didn’t get any from the Republican party. So, if you feel so inclined, feel free to head on over to Lang’s GoFundMe page and give what you can.

But even if he doesn’t reach his goal of $30,000, in my opinion, this story is a huge success.

As usual, the liberals are paying for the mistakes of the conservatives.

Not this liberal. I would be more inclined to be generous IF he would admit that HIS bad decisions started this whole mess.

Good point. He goes from BLAMING Obama to BLAMING the GOP, but as usual never admits that part of the blame goes right to HIM for not having insurance in the first place. Idiots who let the rest of us pay and then think they can just sign up AFTER they get “sick”.

I wonder why no tea party idiots are not making any comments? I suppose because they just can’t refute the facts, but that usually does not prevent them from repeating ACA falsehoods, and bashing anything to help the poor or middle class.

Now we all have to band together and give chunks of money whenever a conservative falls on hard times due to republican policy. Sheesh.

No, we don’t. I have medical bills of my own & my husband found 3 kittens born to a feral mama that we will be fostering until the kittens can be adopted & the mama can be spayed (if I can catch her). I will pay my medical bills & vet bills for the kittens. Heck, even if I didn’t have medical bills for me, I would STILL use my money for the kittens. This guy needs to take PERSONAL responsibility for his bad choices.
