Every year around the start of December, Fox News ramps up their “War on Christmas” coverage. It’s when they completely make up this notion that there’s some evil entity out there that’s slowly working its way through out society to kill Christmas.
It’s completely absurd.
For the last damn time, there is no war on Christmas.
Are there people who make a big deal out of people saying, “Merry Christmas!” during the holidays? Yes, and those people suck. But that doesn’t mean there’s a war on Christmas. There’s always going to be groups of people who are “offended” by something and they’re often the ones who make the headlines.
But that doesn’t mean they represent the majority — not even close.
Preserving a separation of church and state during the holidays does not equate to an attack on Christmas.
I’m a Christian, and I’m not ashamed to admit that I absolutely love this time of year. The colder weather, people are generally in better moods, the movies, the music, the atmosphere — I actually really enjoy all of it.
Now, if someone says, “Happy holidays” to me, I don’t get offended — I just say it back. Generally if someone initiates a greeting, I just repeat whatever they say. I don’t reply with some sarcastic, “Merry Christmas!” when someone says something other than that to me.
If someone says, “Happy Hanukkah,” I say that back as well. You know why? Because I’m not an immature prick.
Honestly, if you want to talk about a “war on Christmas,” look no further than conservatives. It’s their warped view of Christianity, their insistence on shoving their religious views down everyone’s throats and their overall ignorance that’s driven so many people away from celebrating anything Christ-like with Christmas.
This yearly event by Fox News is nothing more than a ratings ploy because it sells great to those who are too ignorant to think for themselves. They find a few obscure stories about someone who’s anti-Christmas making a big deal about something Christmas related, blast them on their airwaves relentlessly, then try to make it appear as if Christmas is being attacked everywhere.
Here’s an idea: If Republicans would stop acting like such pricks in the “name of Christianity,” maybe so many people wouldn’t oppose anything that might be Christian related? Hmm, just a thought.
But this fake “war” has nothing to do with politics and everything to do with money. Like I said, it’s just a tool used by Fox News to get people hostile and angry because that’s what sells.
The truth is, there is no “war on Christmas.” There never was.
