Republicans in Congress have been having a field day with the highly-edited and deceptive videos targeting Planned Parenthood. Even though Mitch McConnell has said that they don’t have the votes to override a certain veto of any legislation to defund the organization, that hasn’t stopped the GOP from making as much noise about shutting down Planned Parenthood as they can.
Here in Louisiana, Governor Bobby Jindal ordered all Medicaid funding that goes to Planned Parenthood to be shut off, even though the Justice Department has sided with them and said Jindal is violating federal law. Facts be damned, many Republican presidential candidates have made all sorts of wildly untrue statements about the health organization, including Ben Carson claiming that it was established to exterminate African-Americans. These politicians know that the videos are extremely misleading and investigations by conservative states like Indiana have turned up nothing. They don’t care; they’d rather just parrot the same old lies for political points with the religious right.
Now, in what must drive anti-abortion activists straight up a wall, Planned Parenthood is getting a $1 million grant to promote Obamacare.
Via The Hill:
The Obama administration on Wednesday awarded more than $1 million in grants to Planned Parenthood to help promote ObamaCare, a move that is drawing GOP criticism at a time when the healthcare provider is under congressional investigation.
Rep. Diane Black (R-Tenn.) blasted the White House’s decision as “unconscionable” in light of allegations of illegal activity in the health provider’s fetal tissue program, which has prompted key Republicans to call for a total defunding of the organization.
“A growing body of evidence suggests that Planned Parenthood broke federal law and now the Obama administration is thumbing its nose at Congress and taxpayers by using this backdoor maneuver to boost funding for the scandal-ridden abortion giant,” Black wrote in a statement Wednesday.

As far as jabs at Congressional Republicans go, this is one of the best yet. If there is a better way to anger Republicans more than this, I would love to know how to do it.
Of course, like other federal funds, this money cannot be used for abortion services. It is simply being given to Planned Parenthood to promote Obamacare, which is something the GOP claims to hate at least as much as abortion.
Remember, these are people who give long, false speeches about Planned Parenthood. They’ll whine incessantly about spending a measly $1 million to help people get access to affordable healthcare, but then turn around and demand a war with Iran which would kill tens of thousands of civilians and cost hundred of billions of dollars. They claim to be pro-life and moan about the tiny fraction of services Planned Parenthood provides that are abortions, which are not federally funded – yet are outraged that taxpayer money be spent on the services that go to prevent abortion in the first place.
Rep. Diane Black isn’t the exception, she’s the rule in a political party which continues to show utter disregard for logic and facts.
