The Whole Damn GOP Needs to be Investigated Following Release of Fusion GPS Transcript

I don’t think I need to tell anyone reading this that none of what we’re witnessing now is normal. A “president” behaving the way Donald Trump does is not normal. Fox News acting like state-run media propaganda is not normal. Congressional leaders from one of our two major political parties trying to undermine credible investigations into whether or not this “president” committed treason is not normal.

None of this is normal.

Following Senator Dianne Feinstein’s (D-CA) release of the transcript of Fusion GPS co-founder Glenn R. Simpson’s interview with the Senate Judiciary Committee, I think it’s time we demand an investigation into the entire damn Republican Party.

Even though Simpson, in the face of the continued attempt by many within the GOP to slander his company and paint the Steele dossier as some sort of politically-motivated fabrication, had pushed for the transcript from his 10-hour interview to be released, Republicans resisted releasing his statements publicly.

Well, I can see now why they didn’t want Simpson’s comments being made public.

After the 312-page transcript was released, it became immediately apparent that charges from Republicans that this was all some “witch hunt paid for by Hillary Clinton” are complete bullshit. Furthermore, accusations that Simpson didn’t cooperate with Republican lawmakers are completely unfounded.

What Simpson told lawmakers was a rather detailed account of what went on and how, during Steele’s looking into Trump’s possible ties to Russia, he became so alarmed with what he was discovering that he went to the FBI in late June 2016 convinced that it was a matter of national security. He then met with the FBI in Rome in September 2016, briefing them on everything he had found, before abruptly ending his cooperation with the agency just prior to Election Day after events unfolded that left him with zero confidence in the investigation. Before cutting off contact, Steele was apparently told by the FBI that they had a source within the Trump campaign (or organization) who had separately confirmed much of what Steele had said.

Obviously there was much… much more, but the general gist of things is that the picture Republicans have been trying to paint of Simpson’s testimony¬†isn’t what actually transpired. Again, that’s why it makes perfect sense that GOP leadership was trying to keep this transcript private for the past several months.

There’s still a whole lot about the Steele dossier that has yet to be verified, but much of it has been independently verified, including Trump’s dealings with mobsters and lying about how “successful” he’s been. Based on what’s contained within these 312 pages of testimony we now have verifiable proof that congressional Republicans have been blatantly pushing misinformation about Fusion GPS, the comments made by Simpson during their interview with him, and the motives behind Steele’s work in what appears to be a clear attempt to undermine these investigations to protect Trump.

Not that anyone reading this is likely surprised by any of this, but Feinstein’s release of this transcript at least gives us actual proof that the GOP has been lying through their teeth about this.

This is why I’ve said for over a year now that I don’t think it’s just Trump who needs to be investigated. It seems rather apparent that many within the Republican Party are working to undermine and interfere, if not outright sabotage, legitimate and credible investigations into whether or not this “president” is a criminal and a traitor.

It’s not what they’re doing that’s the biggest issue here, but why they’re doing it. Is it simply to protect their party or, what I think is very possible, that many of them knew what was going on and either willfully ignored it because they saw it as beneficial to the party politically or even outright participated in it.

While I could be wrong, if you ask me right now, based on what I’ve seen, I find it very unlikely that only Trump, his family, and his campaign associates were the ones who knew about all of this. I absolutely believe more Republicans knew which is why so many of them are desperately trying to impede the progress of these investigations out of fear that they, too, will be exposed once this is all said and done.

I guess only time will tell.
