When it comes to the dangers Donald Trump poses to this country — and the world, for that matter — the list is extensive. That said, even with as much attention as Trump receives in the media, there are still aspects to why he’s so dangerous for this country that I don’t feel get nearly enough attention.
For example, how often he proves that he’s not remotely trustworthy. By that I don’t simply mean how often he lies. I’m talking about how Trump doesn’t follow the traditional “norms” of society and human communication. Donald Trump has repeatedly proven that nothing you say to him, no matter how private, is off-limits from him trying to use it against you later if he feels doing so benefits him in some way.
This also ties into his dishonesty as he’s been known to lie about things people have said to him during his frequent Twitter meltdowns where he likes to attack anyone who might dare say something critical about him.
While his supporters continue to be gullible enough to fall for Trump’s b.s., that doesn’t mean these other world leaders, most of whom are incredibly intelligent, don’t fully understand the situation. Most of them realize that not only is Trump incompetent and completely unfit for office, but he’s a pathological liar who can’t be trusted — ever.
What that means is not only will the leaders of these other nations be far less eager to engage with Trump, which puts the entire country at risk, but when they’re forced to do so there’s a good chance that they’re simply going to tell him whatever he wants to hear. Since there’s a solid chance that most don’t believe anything he says, nor do they trust him, they’re likely going to avoid saying anything to him he might rant about or use against them during one of his frequent Twitter tantrums.
I really don’t think I need to explain why other world leaders not trusting and being afraid to speak candidly with the “President” of the United States is incredibly bad.
It’s also important to point out that if these other world leaders know Trump has no idea what he’s doing, that makes us all that much weaker because they know that he’s easy to manipulate. All they have to do is feed his ego, tell him what he wants to hear, then they can use the fact that they’re much more intelligent than he is to come to agreements that Trump thinks might be beneficial to the United States — except they’re not.
If other world leaders (in particular our allies) don’t feel that they can trust Trump, either because he’s a crook who was compromised by Russia, a criminal who’s surrounded himself with other incompetent criminals, or because they don’t trust that he won’t divulge sensitive or personal information later down the road if he’s ever upset with them, then that puts the United States in a very dangerous position.
Not only does that almost certainly mean our allies aren’t going to be as eager to engage with us on vital issues, but it’s going to isolate us from the rest of the world, which plays right into the hands of our enemies.
Donald Trump and his supporters can go on and on all they want about how he’s “putting America first” and his “strong leadership will strike fear into our enemies,” but none of that’s true. Reality is reality whether or not Trump and his supporters want to believe in it. And the reality is that everyone besides them recognizes Donald Trump’s completely unfit and unqualified to be “President” of the United States. They know he has no idea what he’s doing and our allies almost certainly recognize that he’s not someone who can be trusted.
At the end of the day, that puts the United States in a position of weakness we haven’t experienced in decades.
