To Those Blaming Democrats for the Government Shutdown: You’re Out of Your Damn Minds

Only in the twisted, and often flat-out delusional, minds of today’s Republican Party and the people who support it could they blame Democrats for a government shutdown when the GOP controls the House, Senate, and White House.

Make no mistake about it, this shutdown is a fabricated crisis created by Trump and the Republican Party.

For starters, Trump’s the one who decided to end DACA. Since he’s obsessed with undoing basically anything Barack Obama did in office, he ended the program that protects DREAMers from being deported — a move even quite a few members of his own party didn’t support.

Then several months ago Republicans let funding for CHIP, a vital program that provides health care to millions of children, expire. Meaning that without a long-term solution, funds for the program are about to run out.

If they wanted to, Republicans could offer up a “clean” bill to fund CHIP and it would easily pass — but they won’t. Like DACA, they’re trying to use funding CHIP as political leverage to get what they want.

A fix for Trump repealing DACA, along with CHIP funding, have been issues the Republican-controlled Congress has been ignoring for months. From their attempts to repeal Obamacare, to even their recent tax bill, they’ve been trying to use doing their damn job as “leverage” hoping to get what they want.

Let me reiterate, these issues shouldn’t exist. They’ve been manufactured by Trump and Republicans. DACA was perfectly fine the way it was, and CHIP funding is an easy pass if the GOP-controlled House and Senate would offer up a “clean” bill to fund the program.

I think it’s also important to point out that it’s not just Democrats who opposed the GOP’s short-term “fix” for this mess seeing as several Republican senators blocked the House’s bill as well.

To top it all off, a big contentious point of all of this centers around funding for Trump’s stupid and pointless border wall. The same wall he spent his entire campaign promising Mexico was going to pay for.

So here are just a few facts:

  • Trump ended DACA.
  • The GOP-controlled Congress let funding for CHIP expire.
  • Republicans control the House, Senate, and White House.
  • Several Republican senators voted with Democrats against a short-term “fix” to keep the government open.
  • One of the main things Trump and Republicans are trying to get is billions in taxpayer funding for a wall that he promised Mexico was going to pay for.

Yet these clowns are blaming Democrats for all of this because they’re refusing to help Republicans look less horrible, incompetent, and completely full of crap?

Yes, technically Democrats are playing a part in this because Republicans need at least 60 votes in the Senate to end the shutdown. That said, it’s absurd to blame Democrats for taking a stand for DACA and CHIP funding considering the only reason why those are issues right now is because Trump and the GOP made them into issues.

It’s like someone punching a hole in the hull of a ship, then blaming the passengers on board for the ship taking on water because they won’t give in to the demands of the people who caused the hole in the first place.

It’s true that Democrats could give Republicans everything they wanted and end the shutdown. But the fact remains, the reason why this is happening is because Donald Trump and the Republican Party fabricated this crisis when he ended DACA and they refused to pass a “clean” bill funding CHIP. Now they’re trying to use both as leverage to get funding for a wall that this “president” promised the American people Mexico was going to pay for.

The only people who can rightfully be blamed for this mess are Donald Trump and the Republican Party — period.
