Trump’s Easter Twitter Rant Attacks Immigration Policy That Ended 12 Years Ago

Even on Easter Sunday, Donald Trump couldn’t resist ranting on Twitter about what he saw during his usual daily routine of watching hours of cable news every morning.

Though as with most of this “president’s” unhinged Twitter rants, almost nothing he said made sense or was factually accurate:

For the record, the official “catch and release” policy was ended back in 2006 — 12 years ago.

The closest thing Trump could be referencing (though I doubt he’s aware of it) is a policy that allows undocumented immigrants who claim they fear being returned back home, giving them the right to appear before an immigration judge. There’s also a problem of space where there’s simply not enough beds for the number of illegal immigrants waiting to be sent in front of a judge, therefore they’re released until their hearing.

Anything resembling “catch and release” is simply based on logistics and the normal complexities that come along with trying to deal with illegal immigration.

So while there’s a shred of truth to the fact that some illegal immigrants are “caught and released” based on other factors, that’s not the “official policy” of the United States, let alone any “liberal law” preventing border patrol agents from doing their job. It’s simply a matter of trying to be humane when dealing with immigrants, especially when they claim a credible fear of being returned to their countries.

Oh, and since so many Republicans don’t know this fact, Barack Obama deported more illegal immigrants than any other president in history.

Then there’s the fact that, despite spending the last few months comically accusing Democrats of “turning their backs on DACA and DREAMers,” ignoring how he ended the program back in September, he’s now publicly stated that there will no longer be a deal on DACA.

Well, at least for now, until someone on his administration comes out either today, or probably Monday, and says what this “president” said isn’t actually what he means.

Because that’s the current reality in which we’re all now living. One where the literal words of the “president” of the United States no longer represent what he actually thinks and believes.

If that doesn’t make any sense, it shouldn’t, because it doesn’t.

This is just another day where we’re all reminded that the current “president” is really nothing more than some rambling, incompetent buffoon spouting off nonsense on social media. His rhetoric’s not fueled by factual knowledge concerning the issues he’s commenting on, or even what experts have told him, but rather based on whatever drivel he’s being fed by Fox News.
