I couldn’t care less if Donald Trump wears dentures and neither should anyone reading this. The fact that there have been people out there mocking that possibility is petty and sad. There are plenty of legitimately horrible things about Trump that we can criticize him for without acting like childish conservatives trying to mock him for the possibility that a 71-year-old might have dentures.
That said, there’s no denying that during Trump’s speech where he announced he was moving the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, he slurred several words fairly substantially.
I’m sorry, Trump supporters, but this matters.
I don’t care who the president is, if they’re giving a speech where they’re slurring their words, that needs to be looked into. If it was a problem with dentures, that’s fine; problem solved, no need to dig further. However, if Trump doesn’t wear dentures, then something was causing him to badly slur several words Wednesday.
Well, we now have an official White House response: He doesn’t wear dentures, he just had a dry throat.
I’ve had a dry throat, sore throat, and full-on cottonmouth — none of which have ever caused me to repeatedly slur simple words. Sure, my voice might have been hoarse, or I might have spoken slightly differently than normal, but I’ve never seen a dry throat cause someone to slur their words like they were intoxicated or suffering from a stroke.
So if the White House’s official position is that Trump doesn’t have false teeth (which, again, is no big deal), but that he had a “dry throat,” I’m calling bullshit on that and think there needs to be an investigation into his mental health.
This is not the first time Trump’s struggled with speech lately.
Just a few weeks ago during his trip to Asia, Trump appeared to have trouble speaking, while stopping to drink a bottle of water — oddly holding it with two hands.
Then there was this past summer after departing Air Force one where Trump seemed to struggle finding the limousine meant to take him back to the White House — that was literally parked right in front of him. A giant, armored limo with the Presidential Seal and flags mounted on it that he looked right at, yet went wandering around the tarmac like he was confused about what he was supposed to do.
I know most people reading this are probably like me and have been questioning Trump’s mental health for quite some time. Whether or not you believe he has some form of degenerative brain condition, in my opinion, it’s clear something isn’t right mentally with this “president.”
Though now things have changed. We’re no longer talking about subjective opinions about his comments or behavior that we find “unhinged” or “signs of mental instability.” We now have several instances, including very pronounced slurring on Wednesday, where Trump’s struggled to speak or even hold a water bottle.
So if the official White House position is that “dry throat” caused Donald Trump to severely slur several words — which is ridiculous — then I think it’s only fair that we demand that the health of this “president” be looked into because it seems pretty clear that they’re not being honest about why his words were slurred during his speech Wednesday.
And if the White House is lying about why he was slurring his words, then that proves that there’s something they’re trying to conceal from the American public.
Though Donald Trump and his supporters shouldn’t look at this as a bad thing. After all, if his health and mental faculties are as good as they all claim they are, then there shouldn’t be anything to fear from an independent team of doctors doing a complete evaluation on him.
Then this “president” and his supporters will have indisputable medical data they can use against all of his critics to prove that he’s healthy and mentally sound enough to be “President” of the United States. If Donald Trump doesn’t have anything to hide, or his supporters don’t fear what those results might tell us, then I’m not sure why either would be opposed to this idea.
Ask yourself this: What would Trump and his supporters be saying right now if Hillary Clinton were president, then gave a speech where she badly slurred her words?
I think we all know the answer to that question.
