Trump’s Tweet from G20 Proves He Treats His Supporters Like Morons

I’ve gone on record several times calling out supporters of Donald Trump for defending someone who obviously treats them like idiots who’ll believe anything he says, no matter how ridiculous it is. To be fair, there’s no reason for him to stop doing it considering, no matter how stupid he treats them, millions of his supporters (including most Republicans in Congress) don’t seem to mind.

A great example of this was put on display by a tweet Trump sent out earlier today that was, by far, one of the most idiotic things he’s ever posted:

Look, I’m not going to say that’s one of his worst tweets. Without a doubt Trump’s said much worse things than that.

What I found so ridiculous about it was how unbelievably stupid someone would have to be to believe that’s true.

For starters, John Podesta was Hillary Clinton’s campaign chairman — not the head of the DNC. So right off the bat, Trump’s proving that he doesn’t actually know what Podesta did or the details concerning the cyber attack he seems to suggest he knows more about than U.S. intelligence agencies.

While both were orchestrated by Russian hackers, the breach of the DNC’s email server was different than the one that gained access to Podesta’s emails.

Furthermore, Podesta wasn’t even connected to the DNC when the FBI requested access to their servers. Neither was the CIA involved in their investigation at all. Not only that, but when Podesta’s emails were hacked (which, again, was different than the DNC’s emails being stolen), he cooperated with FBI investigators.

So here are the facts Trump got completely wrong with this one tweet:

  • John Podesta was Clinton’s campaign chairman, not the head of the DNC, so he had no say over what they did or didn’t give to the FBI.
  • Aside from not running the DNC, Podesta wasn’t even connected to the DNC when the FBI sought access to their servers.
  • The CIA wasn’t involved in the FBI’s investigation — at all.
  • Podesta cooperated with the FBI after his emails were hacked.

In other words, nearly everything Trump said in this short tweet was factually inaccurate.

One of the saddest realizations is that even though Trump references last year’s cyber attack quite often, it’s obvious he doesn’t actually know what happened, who was hacked, that the DNC and Podesta hacks were different, or even that being Clinton’s campaign chairman doesn’t mean Podesta ran the DNC.

That’s rather terrifying considering he’s the person currently calling himself “president.”

But even if you want to ignore all of that, without a doubt, the dumbest part of this tweet is the idea that, at the G20 summit, a massive global event attended by some of the most powerful leaders in the world, “everyone” there was talking about — John Podesta’s emails.

Keep in mind, Trump’s claim is that “everyone here is talking about why John Podesta refused to give the DNC server to the FBI and the CIA” — which isn’t even accurate. So why would all these world leaders be talking about factually inaccurate details related to last year’s election?

That question is rhetorical because I can guarantee you they were not talking about John Podesta’s emails.

Seriously, how unbelievably ignorant does someone have to be to really believe that all these leaders from these powerful nations were actually talking about Podesta’s emails or the DNC not fully cooperating with the FBI last year?

Not North Korea; climate change; Brexit; ISIS; global terrorism; the on-going FBI investigation into his campaign; the fact that his former national security advisor is seeking immunity to testify about what he knows; that his attorney general had to recuse himself from the Russia investigation; that he recently fired the head of the FBI who publicly said he’s not someone who can be trusted; that many feel he’s compromised by Russian President Vladimir Putin; or that the special counselor assigned to the case is now looking into whether or not he tried to obstruct justice.

Nope, they weren’t talking much about any of that — but they were all buzzing about Podesta’s emails.

This shows just how stupid Trump knows his supporters are. He’s so confident that they’ll never turn on him he doesn’t hesitate sending something out as outlandish (and factually inaccurate) as this, because he knows most of them will see it and actually believe this foolishness.

Though it is ironic that the guy who whines about “fake news” — practically on a daily basis — is one of the most notorious worldwide purveyors of fake news, lies, and inaccurate information known to humankind.

Totally excellent article. You couldn’t have summed it up any better, Allen. The mere idea that any American–at this time, this minute–would even consider believing such hogwash, that attendees of the G20 summit are even thinking about the DNC or Podesta’s emails, with all the other stuff they have to think about is lunacy. And that tells you where Trump’s head really is, and the whole idea of it is insane, but it’s real! Time for Congress to use the 25th Amendment and take him out. Trump can’t perform his duties as president because he’s well on his way to the Alzheimer’s ward. When is enough going to be enough? Isn’t this tweet all on its own, mild in comparison to everything else, proof enough?

Never mind what tRump supporters heard. Putin heard it. So, whatever tRump said when they met, is there ANY reason to think Putin took him seriously?
